for the hardware. its mostly great. But some odd design choices detract.
first off its not nearly as powerfully compared to the competition as the psp was when it came out. it doesnt seem like it would have added that much to the cost to have 256 mb of vram, compared to its low 128 mb.
also it has a low res screen at only 960x544, when most phones (many which have smaller screens) have resolution of 720p or higher. it also has really low quality cameras.

also it should come in 2 models, the traditional one, and as a cell phone, one with a sliding screen.

as for the controlls they are great for the most part. though after thong gaming sessions, my hands get cramped which is the nature of handhelds. but i do wish the put both the analog sticks above the d pad and face buttons, that would help a lot with the grip, and comfortability of holding and using the handheld.

my games:

reatail: Uncharted: Golden Abyss, MLB 12: The Show, Killzone: Mercenary

digital: Escape Plan, Need for Speed: Most Wanted

im tempted to buy tearaway, but again $40 is wayyy to much for a genre i dont think im really into. I almost bought Resistance when it came out, was initially hyped for Call of Duty, until i found out what it was really. Really wanted to get and Like Assassin's Creed, but they decided to but a french female pirate? as the main character. So i held off.

Shes not a pirate really. She is a high born mulato born of a slave and ex slave owner. She is French tho, Liked her more than Ezio personally. She comes off as very fem fatale and borderline sociopath the way she easily manipulates ppl. The game is suppose to be somekind of Tourist attraction game for those who want to experience Animus in the future but bits of the truth start to seep out as you play.

It's one of my favorite consoles ever. Hardware it's so good. Maybe has few exclusives games so far, but has some incredible gems. Definitely worth the spend. I'm currently loving Tearaway, awesome experience.

if they would have had any of the previous assassin's creed characters, i would have certainly bought it.

but i dont like playing as girls in roles like that, it to unbelievable for me. yes i know i have to suspend a lot of disbelief when it comes to games.
and i dont really like the idea of playing a french girl, evn though i am french. lol i hate most things about france.

I got mine orginally because I still had a phone contract running, but my phone itself was broken. My parents also pushed me to get a new one so I could check my eMail account when I'm travelling. So I quickly asked here how viable a Vita would be for this kind of situation and got mine some weeks after. Today I have a new phone (a 50$ one) and rarely use the 3G functionality of the Vita, but it was fun while it lasted. I still use it to check my eMail account when I don't want to fire up the laptop though.
After I aquired the Vita, I looked into the games. I am a bit handicapped´in that regard, since I'm don't really want to spend money on digital stuff. So I went out and got WipEout 2048, Assassin's Creed III Liberation, Uncharted Golden Abyss and the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection since those were really cheap (like 60€ combined or something).
Those games couldn't really spark my interest though, and the only one I actually finished is Uncharted, which was an alright game. I didn't expect too much from these games though, as I really only bought them to have something to play on my new Vita.
After that, I looked at the suggestions some users made to me in the Vita thread again. (Funny thing is that one actually suggested Valkyria Chronicles 2[PSP], which I had forgotten, but when I looked at the suggestions again I had (probably subconciously) bought the first game for PS3 and loved it. It's now my favourite non-Nintendo series. So thanks to the one who suggested it, if you read this!) One of the suggestions was Persona 4 Golden, and since one store in my area was closing down and had like 80% off of everything, I went to look for some Vita games and got P4G, Little Big Planet, ModNation Racers and PlayStation AllStars.

And P4G made the whole system worthwhile to me. It was such a magical experience playing through that game for the first time, and I still play it daily, trying to see the scenes that I missed. There are only a few games that had a similar impact on me.

I still play more on my 3DS than I do on my Vita, but I definitely don't regret getting it. Basically it all boils down to the fact that the system introduced me to P4G (as I'm not a big fan of some aspects of the Vita's OS), but that alone makes me love it.

Hey Guys. Just got a PS4 and am loving it's functionality and the jump in game quality from the PS3. Currently playing Assassins Creed IV, Battlefield 4 and Resogun.

I am almost definetly getting a PS VIta in the next few weeks given the price, cross screen play, Terraway, Persona 4 Golden and PS+ offers for the console.

Wondering if many people have the Vita and what their experiences with the console have been like.

The hardware is pretty amazing, the OS on it is fucking appalingly bad. Every step of the UI seems to either be there to ram the fact that it has a touchscreen in your face or else has functionality to lock down the system and keep piracy off it unlike on the psp, which.... is working for the most part, but at the cost of functionality to the people who actually buy it.

Always going to add this because I use the system now and then when I'm places away from my PC and sleeping as an mp3 player, it's one is a massive downgrade from that on the psp tho, It's lost its sleep timer completely, putting files onto it now needs to be done via proprietary software running on the PC and the transferring has to be done from the Vita side from specific folders on the PC, no dragging and dropping.

Also while using the system as a music player if you stop touching it for 1/3/5/10 mins the system goes in power saving mode, there is no way to turn this feature off, but all it adds is that when you press the power button to resume the system you need to use the touch screen to swipe off a black panel blocking the system controls, the first time you do this you'll think it's clever, by the 10th time you'll be kind of annoyed at it, did I mention... every time you take it out of standby.... Think of the motion, you pick up your psv, you press the button to turn it on, then you need to swipe the touchscreen... why? why is that second confirmation that you want to use it needed? if you use it as a portable mp3 player, you find your song to listen to, stick it in your pocket and then if you wanna skip a song you need to take the system out (the L and R buttons can't be used to skip songs or do anything during mp3 playback like on the psp) then press the standby button to turn its screen on... then swipe the screen to get to the music app.

The software for moving files onto and off the psvita means you have absolutely Zero access to the memory stick contents, none, you cannot just go to a menu where you see what you have installed and deleted stuff from a list, removing software from the vita is all done with a ton of touching and holding on the main menu which if you want to get rid of patch data will also remove your save files for the games, keeping in mind that some games patches run up to a few GB and space on the vita is damn expensive this means you're literally left with gigs of patches on the if you want to keep your save files til you're finished the games.

The speakers of the system are directly under where your thumbs would rest on the dpad and buttons, so be prepared to be pretty much muting the audio of games accidentally each time you rest your thumbs against the plastic.

There is no cartridge channel or panel on the OS like... each time you put in a game into the system it doesn't just have 1 uniform place where you click on "PLAY THE GAME I STUCK IN YOU" instead each game creates its own little menu icon and will sort out it's patches and save data using that panel, if you have more than 10 apps you need to use different windows, atm I have about 40 apps in total with maybe 10-15 of those being retail games, it looks a fucking mess being honest with you, you can make folders but again, limited to putting 10 things in there, so if you had a folder called retail games live arenas you can only get 10 games per folder... it's just so counter intuitive to the psp's XMB system which worked like a dream. (but again was pirated to death so I understand why they wanted a locked down system to a degree but they're killing it)

In game music! is advertised as a feature in games since it has a lot of ram, don't count on it, there are a few games where it works exactly like you would imagine, (the 360 system, where your mp3 will play until there is a cutscene or story portion which you need to hear then will resume after) there are other games where it will partially work such as LBPV where it works in the menu and your pod, but as soon as you port into a lvl it disables the custom soundtracks, there are games where it works ie the music will play but there is no option to mute or control the audio in the game you're playing so you just get a mess of the game audio and your own song Mgs2+3 collection suffer like this. There are some games which have fully functionally music in them, like PSASBR but yeah... after patch 1.01 came out for that and if you want to play online you need it patched not only did they fix some bits and pieces with moves, but they also patched out the system using custom songs in the game completely, only way you can have your music in it now is with the vanilla unpatched, offline from psn game.

I could go on and on and on if I'm honest, every single turn the Vita comes to where you think, o m f g this is going to be awesome, like you figure that no matter which way it turns it's going to be great, nope the Vita is just driven off the road through some bushs and crashes into a wall rather than take the road you would expect it to take. It's such a beautiful system, it's so incredibly powerful but it's so very flawed by design... it literally has design flaws to it which will jar you from  the entertainment so often for no reason, it really does fuck up the whole Experience.

I would say your best bet for the Vita, is get a lend of a friends one if you can, borrow the system and a few games and see what you think, Because there is so much there to love about it, but also there are so many things just plain wrong they could outweigh the pros for you.

I hope you enjoyed the read and I really would love to know if you choose to pick one up, can add me on psn with StormCloudLive I'm pretty much always on it... being mad at it!

I ordered my Vita and wipEout 2048 the day it was announced that Studio Liverpool was shutting down, thinking "what have I done!" with not supporting them. Not a bad purchase, I have no other Vita games than wipEout though. Planning to get maybe Uncharted Golden Abyss, even though it's a console game in a smaller scale, it's fair enough for me, liked the demo.

Whenever I've heard about the Vita the last weeks, I've always heard about Tearaway so I'll look into that one too.

Still, my most used feature on the Vita is the lovely PS1 support, the games look great on the screen since it's much smaller than a TV screen. And the colours are fantastic on the Vita screen too. I have replayed and finished the Spyro games completely several times on the console, finished Spyro 1 for at least the third time on the Vita yesterday actually. ;)

Yep.

I have both 3DS and Vita. I don't use them a whole lot because I don't have that much time. But, I think I enjoy the Vita more.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash
