I don't know... 360 was selling better than PS3 but PS3 started to be manufactured here in early 2013... right now there are no info about.

Estadão is at the same level as Folha... or Globo. |
I know it is, but none of them is known for good gaming coverage. Although Globo said that not even one PS4 was sold here (http://g1.globo.com/tecnologia/games/noticia/2013/11/por-r-4-mil-playstation-4-chega-ao-brasil-sem-alarde-e-sem-jogos.html). I didn't mean to say that what Estadão published is fake, just that it is not very good for gaming news. I'm just surprised that it is the only place that said that, all other websites, especialized in games or not, said the opposite.

Oh, ok. I just remember the last info we had was that PS3 ahead by a good lead for LTD at the end of 2011. And then there were reports that the 360 was outselling the PS3 for the year in 2012, mainly due to the much lower price. I suspect it probably wasn't enough to gain the lead, but definitely decrease it. I'm guessing for 2013 they are probably selling neck and neck, or the PS3 is slightly ahead.
People here are not getting one thing: not all brazillian are poor. But the rich have tons and tons of money. 15% of our population have 50% of our money. So, like all the countries, we have spoiled childs here too. When playstation 3 launched here, came out for R$7999,00($4000 at the time). Sould out.
One thing is bothering me, ethomaz: why do you think americans is not our big retail? Here were i live we have dozens of this shop since i was born, but never saw fanc, magazine luiza, even casas bahia. Actually i think they only lose in digital sale for submarino.
"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

I think we can take Etho's pics of his own Brazilian PS4 as proof that the claim that not one PS4 was sold is grossly untrue.
The $4000 price was clearly crazy, but it doesn't seem like that's the price people are actually playing, even in retail outlets with warranty it's more like $2300,
which is roughly on par with what Xbone is selling for there as well... If that price difference had held I was assuming that PS4 would simply lose the mass market there, but it seems like they are doing fine.
I think Sony can't just drop their own retail price because they already declared the customs classification as games console (with higher rate),
but other vendors are free to call it a computer (at lower rate) because... hey, it has a web browser!, isn't that what most people use computers for?
That could in fact be the reason behind the price differential between Sony's official price and MS', Sony just didn't think to game the tax classification system and so they got the high rate, while MS was gaming it from the beginning.
Kind of ridiculous that people were out denouncing Sony as greedy (as if jacking the price up 100% wouldn't REDUCE their sales and game profits) when it was clearly down to tax classification, and other vendors are selling PS4 at equivalent rates to Xbox.
I know even domestic products have significant VAT added on, but starting from the $2300 price,
what should the price drop to once they can begin domestic production, i.e. only local tax?
Although by the time they can begin local PS4 production, they may also be ready for a design 'refresh' with lower price by design.
Only once it reaches that lower price can a real mass market begin to be talked about in Brazil (vs. the 'spoiled' or lucky few), but Sony has said that they expect to be able to drop prices more quickly than last gen.
(While otherwise similar, I suspect MS' production prices for Kinect just won't drop as much, and they can't re-engineer that easily without changing it's perormance parameters, which is a no-go)
Are Brazilian produced PS3's (or other products) able to be sold in other MERCOSUR countries at a lesser taxed rate equivalent to domestic products? In theory supposedly, but in reality?

Because...?... They're buying them for pretty much the same price as Xbone's???

Americanas and Submario are the same retail... they did a fusion years ago.
The biggest retail in Brazil I guess it is Casas Bahia... after that there are some like Magazine Luiza... Americanas come after in the middle... and at the bottom Fnac and Fastshow.
About games I think UZGames is the biggest in Brazil.

It was updated at 19h28 and I know people work here. I live here... Black Friday sales here are not even good for games, I didn't see any oficial retailer selling PS4 for a different price. Also, while XBox One and Wii U were at TOP50 at Saraiva and Siciliano since their lauch (I don't know if there is any other retailer that have these rankings), PS4 wasn't.

At Submarino the PS4 is yet R$3500 due Black Friday... I think no retail sold PS4 at R$4000.
The update was only about the reply from Sony talk with game released.... they didn't checked again.
