Forums - Sony - Despite the High Price PS4 Had Good Reception in Brazil (PS4 Reception is Even Better in Gray Market... I Checked Myself)

What I don't understand is why Sony even bothers with 3rd world countries like Brazil. If they're only going to sell a few thousand consoles it's not even worth it when they can easily sell those elsewhere.

Brazil is not a third world country

Yes it is, look it up. This is fact.

It's a country with a poverty problem. 12 million brazilians live in slums/favelas.

While I kind of agree with you this number is unbeliable... 12 million is the population of São Paulo (the biggest city)... there are no favela enough to that number of people lol.

I can confirm that here in Argentina Sony had 3000 units available and they were all sold out within hours. The Sony Store where my friend works had 160 units allocated, all of them sold in minutes. I was told there wont be any more shipments until mid december, but they will be way smaller, around 600 units.

Price is 6500AR$ or around 1100USD

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.

First, the "first/second/third" world country is an outdated classification

Second, while Brazil has a poverty problem, but it is not enought to call it a third world country. Look a these:

- Human Development: http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/map/worldmap_HDI2004.htm
- Freedom of Press: http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/map/press_freedom_map.htm

- Economy:

a) "Brazil has the sixth largest economy by nominal GDP in the world, and seventh largest by purchasing power parity"

b) "Brazil’s economy is the largest of the Latin American nations and the second largest in the western hemisphere.[14] Brazil is one of the fastest-growingmajor economies in the world with an average annual GDP growth rate of over 5 percent. In future decades, Brazil is expected to become one of the five largest economies in the world"

Countries I would call "third world" may include Haití, Bolivia, most of African countries, etc..., But come on, Brazil is one of the biggest markets and Sony would be stupid if they did not aim for that. That is why people are saying Sony made a bad decission since the price of the PS4 in there is not only justified by taxes

What? Most Brazilian gaming websites I read said that the reception was not good. I don't know if Estadão is a good source for this kind of news. The truth is that I know a lot of people here that bought PS4 from Amazon, but no one that paid R$4000,00. There are rumours that this price is because Sony is selling PS3 very well since it started to be produced here and they want to keep having profit over PS3. The actual price for PS4 should be around R$2000 acording to these rumours or even lower if it was made in Brazil.

I'm impressed that people still think of Brazil like "third world", it is not only outdated as a huge misconception. We have poverty and some other problems here, problems that we see in the USA that is the biggest economy in the world and a very good place to live, but it's really far from what many people from North America and Europe think.

Estadão is at the same level as Folha... or Globo.

Just imagine how sales will go once Sony starts making the PS4 in Brazil and can sell it for even cheaper. I highly doubt the One is going to win that country.

BTW, ethomaz, is the PS3 still ahead there?

Arent console always expensive in Bresil are other console launch with a much lower price.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m
