What I don't understand is why Sony even bothers with 3rd world countries like Brazil. If they're only going to sell a few thousand consoles it's not even worth it when they can easily sell those elsewhere.

Brazil is not a third world country

Yes it is, look it up. This is fact.

It's a country with a poverty problem. 12 million brazilians live in slums/favelas.

First, the "first/second/third" world country is an outdated classification

Second, while Brazil has a poverty problem, but it is not enought to call it a third world country. Look a these:

- Human Development: http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/map/worldmap_HDI2004.htm
- Freedom of Press: http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/map/press_freedom_map.htm

- Economy:

a) "Brazil has the sixth largest economy by nominal GDP in the world, and seventh largest by purchasing power parity"

b) "Brazil’s economy is the largest of the Latin American nations and the second largest in the western hemisphere.[14] Brazil is one of the fastest-growingmajor economies in the world with an average annual GDP growth rate of over 5 percent. In future decades, Brazil is expected to become one of the five largest economies in the world"

Countries I would call "third world" may include Haití, Bolivia, most of African countries, etc..., But come on, Brazil is one of the biggest markets and Sony would be stupid if they did not aim for that. That is why people are saying Sony made a bad decission since the price of the PS4 in there is not only justified by taxes
