Forums - Nintendo - Gamestop dates Super Smash for April 8th?

Sweet, gamestop has never been wrong so I'm gonna rush over there and let them have my $60 for multiple months ahead of time.

Zelda Wii U will NOT launch in 2014. I'm prepared to bet on it.

Didn't SS take far longer?

It did. However, Nintendo spent two years in the R&D phase, and Skyward Sword actually began full production after Spirit Tracks came out in 2009.

With ALBW and (especially) WWHD's development farmed out to other dev teams, I think late 2014 is completely doable.

Keep in mind they didn't have to worry about HD with Skyward Sword though. And if the rumors are true that this is supposed to be Nintendo's biggest, most ambitious project ever in it's history, then 2014 might be pushing it.

Late 2014 is the earliest I expect the game. Iwata himself expressed his desire to see the game finished by then, so I believe that's the deadline. Could be delayed a year? Sure. That's what happened with Twilight Princess, though that was for the purpose of releasing it as a Wii launch title.

No matter what, I'm dead certain that the game will be shown at E3 2014. It may even be announced before then, if Nintendo wants people to continue buying Wii U consoles after the holiday season is finished.

Didn't Aonuma mention one time that work on Zelda U actually began near the end of Skyward Sword's development? I might be wrong but didn't it start in late 2010/early 2011?

R&D and engine work most likely started around that time. There's no way full production started until SS came out, however.

I never claimed that it would. I merely said that it may be possible.

Even if it's true, you know they'll delay it.

I wanna believe Namco Bandai's involvement will prevent that. Wii U cannot afford any more delays, especially not for it's biggest sellers, and Nintendo must know this!

I forgot they're involved. I'm hoping that's a good thing too. Wii U needs a constant stream of games with minimal delays. Optimum scenerio would be one Nintendo Wii U excluisve a month, but that's unrealistic and a pipe dream.

I'll take you up on that bet! Same conditions as the rest of the bets in me signature?

I could see it. The game looks far along and they could exploit the lull on PS4 and XBOne by hitting with Mario, DK, MK8 and Smash one after another. If the system has momentum they don't even need a big Christmas title for 2014 but it could be Zelda or something crazy like a Mario FPS which would be massive.

Find it very hard to believe Smash won't be the big 2014 holiday game for both systems, unless Zelda U is miraculously finished in time for the end of 2014?

Also, if people are going to choose to try and hype up a "Nintendo Announcement" from Reggie at the VGX, then let's at least try something that is more credible than GameStop's notoriously made-up release dates for far-off games:
