Didn't SS take far longer?

It did. However, Nintendo spent two years in the R&D phase, and Skyward Sword actually began full production after Spirit Tracks came out in 2009.

With ALBW and (especially) WWHD's development farmed out to other dev teams, I think late 2014 is completely doable.

Keep in mind they didn't have to worry about HD with Skyward Sword though. And if the rumors are true that this is supposed to be Nintendo's biggest, most ambitious project ever in it's history, then 2014 might be pushing it.

Late 2014 is the earliest I expect the game. Iwata himself expressed his desire to see the game finished by then, so I believe that's the deadline. Could be delayed a year? Sure. That's what happened with Twilight Princess, though that was for the purpose of releasing it as a Wii launch title.

No matter what, I'm dead certain that the game will be shown at E3 2014. It may even be announced before then, if Nintendo wants people to continue buying Wii U consoles after the holiday season is finished.
