Forums - Sales - Is It Possible For The PS4 To Sell 2M for Week Ending 11/30?... I Believe So!

Will PS4 sell 2M for week ending 30th

yes 216 55.24%

iz possible 67 17.14%

nah 74 18.93%

XB1 will sell more that week 14 3.58%

WiiU well sell more that week 20 5.12%

Total:391

I voted "nah", but my reasoning is because the shipment size just will not be there. I am guessing 1.5m units shipped. Europe getting 1m units, the same allocation as the NA shipment, but the rest of the world (minus Japan) will get only 500K units in the first shipment. I believe it's this "low" because of commitments also have to be made to the USA, especially for Black Friday. Not sure on this, prolly very limited at 100-250K. Because of this their is no way they can ship all the units they have left to the one region (EU).

Remember they only make about 250,000 units a week in manufacturing. 1 million per month. August and September are trial production runs, so it's hard to say how many consoles were produced at that time. Could have been 500K, or 1.5 million (remember they started mass-production in mid August; Day one consoles are from August/Sept batches). Do logical calculations and they can have anywhere from 2.5-3.5 million units manufactured. Depending on when they got the green light, their shipment numbers might vary by a lot initially.

Be awesome to see if they sold 2m+ PS4's. That would be something else!

Depends on the supply, if Sony can get 1 million PS4 to Europe then yeah it's easily doable.

2 million total worldwide? Yes. 2 Million on just that week no. There isn't enough supply.

nor enough demand.

wait a second, you say that Sony is wasting money by renting warehouses for the accomodation of around 1million consoles? yeah, that doesn't sound good right. they need to get rid of those consoles as soon as possible, so the batch that is going to be sod on black friday was completed maybe 1 day before is shipped. You think this kind of sales are planned to maintain a steady flux of products month after month by storing units? thay need to sell it in quantities of a million maybe, but they are not going to seat over 2 million on warehouse to get rid of 1 million first, then the next month sell the other million. that is lost money renting the space on the warehouse.

the production of this kind of products start slow because nobody know what is going to be the real demand, how much are sold the first day. then they start buidlig a process where the increments are small until a quantity is remained in stores. after that there is no more increase in manual labor to increase manufacturing.

Manufacturing doesn't work like that, you can't have a factory capable of building, say, 1 millions units per week (to meet launch / Christmas demand) but then only utilize 30-40% of that the rest of the year. You build consoles at a steady rate, typically above normal sales, and stockpile units to be sold during heavy-hitting periods.

"Oh shit, GTA is out next week! Best hire 500 more guys for the week and get all these machines dusted so can pump out all these extra consoles!"

Manufacturing equipment is ridiculously expensive. A simple drill for a printed-circuit-board line can cost more than your house (source: me. My father owns a PCB printing firm). It's not good business sense to have a load of machines in-house that you can only use when demand is super-high.

Do you have a better source on them starting that early? Also after looking around a bit, most websites reported august/september, so i just put it in between.

ill keep looking, but all i can find is sites saying in june components are shipped,  and august reports its in production.   I just considered it started  june/july since thats when they started getting all the components, but its true they may not have officially started until august, so i miss spoke.

still it has been in production for a while and any units in stores now and sold this weekend were built well before 2-3 weeks ago.

As they come out of the factories, they move to distribution wearhouses that sony already has, from there they are shipped to distribution wearhouses owned by the retailers,  amazon, best buy etc(sometimes they are even sent to yet another sony wearhouse even before the retailer)..  from there they are either shipped to yet another distribution center, or finally to stores, but thats up to the retailer.

PS4's right now are sitting in wearhouses across the world.  That is a fact. There are also some in transit, and some sitting in the back of stores.  Production started in august,  Where do you think those first units go?   A WEARHOUSE!!!!

He is correct. They have plants that are setup for the entire duration, with the unit output being steady. You can't pump out more as it wasn't designed to put out more per month. Also you can't produce less because then you're making a huge loss, as it's safer to sit with extra stock for a "rainy day". Also with this, they will not open a factory for a month because a huge event is coming up like "Black Friday". This is a VERY HUGE LOSS setting up factories, and it's contracted with Sony's development associates (Foxcon, etc..).

Then are people thay said that Sony had more than 3M PS3 on warehouses (difference between Vgchartz before correction compared to Sony shipping figures), go figure...

I dont think Sony sent 1M PS4 in europe... In France, we cant get PS4 before january if we didnt pre order before september

They have closed pre-orders in NA around the same time so they could have some unreserved consoles at stores... Hope you have that luck in France...

In Brazil I'm certain we will have consoles to pick up =]

I asked to my Micromania ( biggest game retailer here ) , they say they wont have stock for day one and if they had, it would be for those who pre ordered.

Officialy , we only know Sony will give 800 PS4 to the first buyers in Paris.

So unless retailers are unware of their supplies for the end of the year, it's done, we'll have to wait 2014 ( and my brother couldnt wait, he bought a Xbox One lol, so i'll finally get both)
