Looks like, ds probably reached main audithory, so nowhere to grow. =)

yeah, you dont expect all of japan to buy DS

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

guys, i really don't think DS sales are gonna be increased by games very much at all. Do you really think ANOTHER FF release is gonna make a difference? Mostly all the genres are covered now, the DS already has a very well rounded and massive user base in Japan. Another model would increase sales but i don't think it would reach that many more gamers, all it would do is making many people who already have a DS get another one.

A price cut might would probably push some more people over the edge who are waiting to buy a DS, but I don't expect that to be a big number.

DQ9 is gonna sell some systems, but most DQ fans probably already have a DS. Square Enix is already very well represented on DS, and there are other DQ titles although this would be the first main series title.

The point is that it has sold so too well and it had to slow down at some point, there is only a limited amount of people willing to play games in a given country.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

A price cut would fix this "problem" Nintendo is having.

Good for both companies, DS is still making a ton of money, and PSP is pushing some units as well ^^ Hopefully it keeps up so I can still have plenty of Japanese developed games on my PSP :D

Well it needed to slow down sooner or later . The DS was selling way to much . Even the GB+GBC only managed to push 35 million units in 10 years , and since then Japans actual population went down . It will go back fast afther DQ9/pricecut/redesign , but IMO 07 was the peek .

Yup, DSL is still at its launch price

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

teh PSP is a Fad11!1

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Grr...but like DS lover said , the ds has reached a saturation point

introducing new colors and other incentives while sony is fresh w. the psp slim

btw: ido have a psp but prefer my ds over it on most games
but not games like virtua tennis.

Two weeks still isn't quite a "trend" but this is still really interesting and should be slightly concerning for Nintendo. They should think about price cuts and redesigns for the spring. Ideally, I think they should have kept someone working on another Brain Age or Nintendogs type idea to keep expanding the potential audience of the system. Voice Training? Paint DS? Nintendosaurs?

If it is due to market saturation, then there's no issue with the trend spreading to America and Europe, where the DS is nowhere close to a historical saturation point. When they approach those points in two years or so, anything could have happened to PSP in the meantime.

In any case, PSP is going to have spectacular total hardware sales for a "losing" console!

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.
