Forums - General - I need advice on what to do with my life, Im going through a tough time

Even though we live far away doesn't mean we don't care. I hope you know that. I'm honored you consider us family :)

Your cousin'a a jerk if he did actually blocked you. Blood relatives are overrated, by the way. I think the best family is the one you make from the people you choose to be with. It makes sense to be upset, since it only just happened, but you're still young and have your whole future ahead of you. Cheer up :)

I liked the advice in the other thread. Making more friends is great. You should hang out with people around you who you have things in common with. I'm sure they're closer than it seems :)

You should never forget the past.. But learn from it and more importantly: give it a place in your past and move on to the future.. Yes a lot of people are backstabbing a holes.. Be better then them.. Never be like them.. If you go to college and make new friends threat them like you always do with respect and friendship.. And never measure them against your old backstabbing friends..

Be open to them, don't be scared.. Its not easy to gain really good friends.. Just get to know some people first.. It evolves from time.. Be patient. We will be here in the meantime if you need an ear to talk to

My best advice.
Join the military if you can. Not necessarily combat oriented occupations but also support.
Join Air Force. You'll meet new people, learn new things and skills that might snatch you a job/career when you get out.
At your age and this moment in your life you'll fit very well.

I hope you are able to figure out the right path for yourself and like some of the others have already said you should just forget your cousin no one like that is worth your time.

I say first and foremost you must like your self. The world has many avenues to bring you down and most time the only thing that allows you to stand in the face of such a storm is understanding who you are as a person. You can have all the friends in the world and still feel lonely. If there are things you want to improve about yourself and your mental health start with one and start to work on it. Write down goals and keep them in your wallet. Check off those goals once you meet them so you have something to show the progress you are making. Set time frames to accomplish those goal and be realistic. At least look at those goals 2 twice a week. Once you start to reach and accomplish the goals you set, you will see things change for the better but most important you will feel better about yourself.

I am a Christian and so I will give you some Christian advice. I would take this Sunday as a chance to go and find your self a church to go to. If you have a car just drive, I have a feeling that if you just drive it looking for a church to attend, you will find the one you need.

^^ i actually am for the church idea..not to push you into a religion or something like that.. But church can help you have a relaxing state of mind. And to be in a refreshing setting. If you're not up to college yet

Like other people in this thread, I'll suggest that you start something new, college seems like a good idea. Do NOT give up on life, you are young and even if you might not believe it there are people that would miss you very much, a buddy of mine killed himself a couple months ago and it was a devastating experience for me and the people that knew him.
I will take a wild guess and say that you have trouble making friends, I am like that as well, but that cannot stop you from meeting new people, if you give it a chance I guarantee that you will find people that will accept you for what you are, until then you can talk to us.

I had already suggested church, too. I'm an agnostic myself, but if you find the right church (more peace and love than hellfire and damnation) that's just the sort of thing for a person looking for a positive influence in their life.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

First, don't hate on your cousin. Supporting someone emotionally can be a big drain, and maybe he can't handle it any more. He was a good person to help you for all those years, most people wouldn't tolerate a few days.

In terms of how to improve your situation: if you do go to college, and don't know what to study yet, seriously consider Computer Science, it will be beneficial to you in a lot of ways. Namely, it's a great degree for a career, and it's a highly-demanded skill world-wide, meaning that if you ever want to move city, state, or even country, a CS degree (provided you worked hard, got good grades, and worked at some decent internships) is a fantastic tool for such a move. I've already spent a year in Hong Kong, and I had options to work in The Netherlands and South Africa, hopefully next year I'll be moving to California, if I play my cards right.

Outside of career and visa opportunities, you'll find that in a Computer Science degree you'll find many people in similar situations to you: perhaps a little socially awkward, not many friends. So long as you stick your neck out - just a little bit - you will develop social groups. There will be societies at your uni for everything you can think of - including video games, and those are essentially developed to help people make friends.

The only other piece of advice I can give you is: get a job. A shitty-part time job while you study. Maybe only 10-15 hours a week. Fast food joints are great because of their flexible hours and young work force (meaning most of your colleagues will be similar age to you). Working in a real, productive, job can do wonders for your feelings of personal worth, and they will give you extra motivation in the rest of your life.

I'm currently back at McDonald's while I finish the last year of my CS degree. I love my job, you really feel like you've spent a good day working, the time flies, and you're making people's lives better by serving them something they want. Out of my friends at Uni, I'm also one of the very few who are financially independent from my parents, that in itself is a fantastic feeling.

What you fundamentally need to do, though, is stop relying on others for emotional support, and you need to develop motivation. If you honestly try this for a few months, and you don't see any improvement in your emotional stability, you may be suffering from depression and it might be a good time to see a doctor for some medical help.

A lot of you people know me on here but do not know anything about my personal life . My life is so bad right now. I am all alone have no family, no soul mate,Im all alone in Chicagoland. My father game a place to stay and a few thousand dollars to support myself before he kicked me out because he married his girlfriend and she never really liked me she wanted to start a new family and didn't want anything to do with me.  My mother died when I was 13. The only relative that I ever spoke to was my cousin from Canada. We talked every day on facebook for the past 5 years. He even came and visited me here in America a few times. I told him about all my problems he said he is sorry and wished he could help me we share a lot of things in common we are the same age, we are both into history, music, games etc. But then a few days ago I go on my Facebook page and he's no longer there. I cant view his page. So I think either he deleted his facebook (most likely) or he blocked me (least likely). So what I did was i created a new facebook page with a fake name and searched him up and he appeared.. I added him as a friend to be sure that his profile is active, he accepted my friend request and messaged me, Who is this?? I told him who I was and as soon as I said that he blocked me again.  This disappointed me so much. I lost faith in everything. I trusted him with everything. He knew that I was going through a tough time and yet he decided to block me.

I have had so many friends who backstabbed me or stay away from me when I did everything i could for all of them. I am not a bad person I try my best to help people and never seem to get the same treatment in return. I dont really know what i should do. I am 19 years old live alone.  Should I start college and forget about the past. But its tough to forget about things because I was hurt so much, especially when my trusted cousin blocked me. I guess i just need somebody to talk to. Believe it or not you people on here are the only "family"  i have left.

Thanks.

Man, first things first: the tough times do not change you, they reveal who you are. This too shall pass, so, do not give it up, never.

That said, let´s solve the most important: you need a job to support yourself, get whatever, start from bellow and do the best you can, work from the heart, do it like your life depends on it.

This will put food on your table, in time, things will get a little better, more money will come. but, do not get angry or think life is unfair, if these things are happening, is because you are tough enough to live them, you will get through this and get stronger.

About your cousing, forget this, the right people will get close to you and the wrong will get away, that is all that is to it, nothing more, do not give it a second thought.

Man up, keep your head up and thrust life, whatever happens, fight throught it, till your last breath, do not give it up, never.

And stay in the foruns, we are all friends here in a way.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.
