Doesn't that work with e-mail too? I don't understand what makes Swapnote special in this and why this is a reason to sutdown the service? Is it easier to reach the girls this way? It's hard to think so, as they have to exchange friend-codes.

It allowed much easier access to the girls, yes the girls were already in contact in order to exchange FCs but after it was a field day, people exchange FCs with out question now days anyway. Shutting down the service is not an extreme measure as remember those online chats rooms in the 90s were shut for similar reasons. People can do the same on Emails true although 3DS is a more tricky prospect to argue that on, it's a PR nightmare and they'd rather do away with the app then try to regulate it.

Yes, I can see it is a PR-nightmare. It still sucks they ended the service, I liked letterbox.

Just give me an achievement system for 3DS and WiiU and I'll be happy. I promise Nintendo!

Fucking pathetic.

Nowadays people can send whatever they want through countless phone apps, pc internet, tablets, etc. Even Wii U. But on 3DS they can't because it is not safe.

I was getting pumped to get a 3DS again, but with the ridiculous friend code swapping, nothankyou.

Too lazy to type in a few numbers?
Not that I'm pro-friend codes or anything, but I don't think they're big enough a hassle that it should affect one's purchasing decisions.

It's stupid how you can't directly message friends on the 3DS. Logs on. Oh, so and so is on, let me see if they want to do something. Oh wait, I can't.

So....what's the god damned point in even having it in the first place?

Use it like a mini-forum.

FYI, you pokemon team is only 5.....competitive teams tend to have 6 ;)

It says In-game team for one and I do a 6th Pokemon, Mega Venusaur, its just no has posted an animated model of him yet. :P

I think one reason why the Wii U has it but the 3DS doesn't is because #1 the problem popped up from the 3DS and #2 there are many more 3DS users than Wii U users, moderating them would be much more difficult. Nintendo probably will eventually enable it, but right now after what happened with the 3DS, a lot of people are probably really worried about their children and Nintendo doesn't want to lose the parent buyers.

ignore, double post.

Today I've built a wooden bridge (for fucking horses to cross) under minus 5 degrees. No I'm not lazy. I just like to have an independent device that can connect and interact with other people. Which the 3DS is not and never will be it seems. We gotta lurk on forums for fucking number codes like losers, to have someone in your friend list. And then, you can't voice chat or text chat with them. Gotta use yet another device to do so. Ridiculous, if you ask me. Absolutely obsolete.

While it is weird Nintendo is going with the decision they made after all has been said and done, you are clearly exaggerating.  Also, you don't need to "lurk on forums" to get the codes.  If you know someone in person, you don't have to type in the numbers at all.  Then the thing with voice chat... I honestly don't see very many uses for that with the games on the 3DS.  Maybe Kid Icarus: Uprising and a few others, but not enough to make it where voice chat is absolutely something that should be there or it sucks.  Plus, Heroes of Ruin, if I remember correctly, does allow voice chat.  As for text chat, through MiiVerse they MAY enable it for the 3DS eventually if they're willing to take a risk.
