Forums - Gaming - Digital Foundry Face-Off: Call of Duty: Ghosts (PS3, 360, PC, Wii U)

A Treyarch dev on the official COD forums has said they hope to address the framerate via a patch, so that at least might be remedied a bit.

Honestly I didn't have much problem with it, as it almost never dips below my 30fps comfort threshold, but some gamers are more sensitive to framerate than others.

Perhaps they should have dropped the resolution to match the 360 version to bolster fluidity? (Wii U runs at a slightly higher resolution than the others, 720x880, versus 600x1024 on 360 and just 600x860 on PS3)

The bigger problem is the texture streaming bugs, which make for some real eyesores. Sometimes you'll pick up a gun and its a PS2-esque slab of mud, then later in the same mission you pick up the same gun and it's high res and crisp. No word yet if this will be patched unfortunately.

Personally, I'm having a blast with the Wii U version in spite of its imperfections. The most important thing for me, Wiimote controls, are superb, making gunning down AI morons marvellously satisfying. Already beaten the campaign, but I fire it up every day to play 5 or 6 missions. No regrets whatsoever about buying it.

"The real letdown comes with the Wii U version, which sees owners of Nintendo's console once again left with a sub-par experience marred by frequent frame-rate issues and some pretty striking texture quality problems that makes it hard to recommend when both 360 and PS3 offer up smoother gameplay and more enjoyable online play as a result."

Last year WiiU had the excuse of being new. This year that it was an afterthought. Next year ??

The Wii U version simply isn't a very well made port.

As much as I enjoy it, it's clearly not the work of an A Team developer; it required not just a day one patch but also a day two patch to resolve freezing issues, and the reported glitch list on the official forums is a long one.

When the "next gen" ultimate pc version looks slightly superior to last gen, you know you can't expect much on consoles.

looks much better then current gen versions.

Man. Game looks like total garbage on consoles graphically doesn't it. Total cash-in this game. It's not exactly a contender for 'Graphics King' on PC either, but at least it's presentable. Those console ports are a joke, and the WiiU version is the worst. How on Earth can it be so utterly inconsistent quality-wise? In some scenes, the WiiU version is the clear winner over the other consoles, but then in others, textures look like they're 6th gen!

well Treyarch used IW code to work with. My guess is its just a cheap port to get the game on the console. You can't really blame activision after the poor sales.

There is no excuse for the really poor sales of ghosts. sure it has some issues, but the game also has issues on XBOX one and PS4 and people will preordering it in hundreds of thousands lol.

Well, now Activision can't really expect sales for Ghosts to sufficiently outperform those of Black Ops 2 on WiiU either. I mean, who's going to buy this crap? I'm sorry, but I find it inexcusable. It's Activision's fault, they've been digging their own grave. If you want your game to sell, make sure you put out something that's worthwile!

Personally I shouldn't really be complaining though, because I wasn't going to get this game on whatever system anyway .

Really disappointing about Wii U. I can live with the textures, but inconsistent frame rates are a big problem for me.

GamePad functionality is a major selling point but I'm not sure it's enough this time. Will probably go for the X360 version when it drops to $20.

P.S. does anyone know if Ghosts supports local multiplayer like Black Ops 2? That is, one player on GamePad, one on TV monitor?

Yes it does.

Even the PC version looks pretty bad, and downright horrible next to Battlefield 4. This is hardly the go-to title to measure visual quality in my opinion.

PC would be ok, but I'm forced onto medium to high settings because SLI causes all kinds of issues with Ghosts for me.

this game looks like shit  even on PC  so is no a measure to visual quality on neither platform

Luckily though, it has an amazing, original campaign with surprises and awesome characters to offset the poor visuals. Or did they match the shit visuals? I always get confused with all these military shooters!

I think they're probably stretching themselves too thin with all the different versions of the game.

A Wii U version is probably out for next year's COD and they will focus more on the PS4/XB1/PC builds.
