Which other consoles? I'd say the Wii had a better first party lineup than both the Gamecube and N64 at the very least. In fact, the great first party games are probably its most redeeming quality. I mean we got: The Last Story, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Endless Ocean, Endless Ocean: Blue World, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, Skyward Sword, Mario Kart Wii, Metroid: Other M (horrible story, good gameplay), Metroid Prime 3, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Pandora's Tower, Punch-Out, Sin and Punishment: Star Successor, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Paper Mario, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Wario Land: Shake It, and Xenoblade Chronicles as quality titles published by Nintendo. That is about $1100 (new) worth of games, to put things in perspective. Say one owns and plays a Wii from late 2006 until early 2011. That is four games per year from Nintendo (evenly distributed. But, just to put things in perspective, here is the Gamecube's first party library: Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin, Super Smash Bros Melee, Wave Race: Blue Storm, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, Metroid Prime, Starfox Adventures, Super Mario Sunshine, F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Mario Kart: Double Dash, The Legend of Zelda Four Swords Adventure, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Pikmin 2, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Starfox Assault. That is seventeen games. I could do the same for the N64. At the very least the Wii is comparable to the N64 and Gamecube, with very similar games to boot, and I'd argue more diversity. The only problem the Wii had was the early and late droughts, while the other consoles had evenly distrubted releases or dwindled toward the end (especially N64.) |
I preferred Wind Waker to Skyward Sword, Melee to Brawl, Double Dash to MKWii. Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 were great but a lot of the other games were either forgettable or inferior to their predecessors.
Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
