I thought wii production had completely ceased.

Hopefully not, I like seeing Playstation on top. Nintendo already dominates handhelds like a boss, variety is good lol.

It has to, I read in dozens of threads a couple of years back that it was trending way above the PS2.

OT: Really hard to say, there won't be a whole lot more shipped and it's been officially discontinued for two of the major markets, if the total global stock reaches a number around or above the PS1, it should eventually cross that boundary.

ha, we are a long way from the wii definitively outselling the ps2 and selling 240mill are we? Nintendo already stop production in japan, Europe and NA will follow next year in the end they might be 1 million short

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Probrably if it can last just a little more it will surpase the ps1 around spring next year it just needs to have an okay holiday season.

Possible but doubtful.

Am i out of line saying that it doesn't deserve to outsell Ps1?

Why?
It revolutionized the gaming industry.
It "deserves" the massive sales it gets.

It's not happening and that's a good thing. My inner fanboy would be appalled that such a mediocre console would outsell the PS1. For the record, I like my Wii, but the awful 3rd party support, terrible online experience, overemphasis on motion controls, and (compared to other Nintendo consoles) a fairly weak 1st party lineup hold it back.

But alas, I have gone too far off topic. Back to staring at my PS4 preorder on Amazon.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Doesn't matter because selling 100 million consoles between 1994 and whenever the PS1 sold it's last unit is INFINITELY more impressive due to the fact that the industry was tiny compared to when the Wii had it's run.

To answer the question directly though, no.

Which other consoles? I'd say the Wii had a better first party lineup than both the Gamecube and N64 at the very least. In fact, the great first party games are probably its most redeeming quality.

I mean we got: The Last Story, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Endless Ocean, Endless Ocean: Blue World, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, Skyward Sword, Mario Kart Wii, Metroid: Other M (horrible story, good gameplay), Metroid Prime 3, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Pandora's Tower, Punch-Out, Sin and Punishment: Star Successor, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Paper Mario, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Wario Land: Shake It, and Xenoblade Chronicles as quality titles published by Nintendo. That is about $1100 (new) worth of games, to put things in perspective.  Say one owns and plays a Wii from late 2006 until early 2011. That is four games per year from Nintendo (evenly distributed. But, just to put things in perspective, here is the Gamecube's first party library:

Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin, Super Smash Bros Melee, Wave Race: Blue Storm, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, Metroid Prime, Starfox Adventures, Super Mario Sunshine, F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Mario Kart: Double Dash, The Legend of Zelda Four Swords Adventure, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Pikmin 2, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Starfox Assault. That is seventeen games. I could do the same for the N64.

At the very least the Wii is comparable to the N64 and Gamecube, with very similar games to boot, and I'd argue more diversity. The only problem the Wii had was the early and late droughts, while the other consoles had evenly distrubted releases or dwindled toward the end (especially N64.)
