It's why every major game device now has motion controls. It's why we've had such a huge explosion in the casual gaming scene since 2006. It's why we have Kinect 2.0 built into the Xbox One as a major feature. It's why we have Avatars, Kinect Sports, and countless other simple "cutesy" games both on mobile and console platforms.
So yeah, Wii did have a pretty major impact on the gaming industry. It made motion control the standard.
