Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Iwata: PS4 and Xbox One Launches Will "energise the videogame industry as a whole"

What happened to Nintendo targeting core gamers? Did that evaporate along with third party support? Or is he simply implying a "for now" condition?

Anyway, I'm fine with Nintendo in their niche, if that's the route they settle into. Nothing wrong with that. Plenty of people would be happy with that direction.

Edit:  It seems Iwata said 2014 will be Nintendo's year for the "highly skilled gamer".  Interesting.  Do they have anything announced besides Bayonetta?

Pretty thin lineup as far as I know. Mario Kart of cource and Donkey Kong. SSB might come out next year, and possibly X.

Weren't SSB & X both targeted for 2014? There might be delays, but I think Nintendo explicity said those two were also supposed to release next year as well.

Was the first bayonneta for highly skilled gamers ?

Even my girlfriend finished the game twice.

Pretty sure they are both slated for 2014, but it's Nintendo, sadly you never know.

Yeah that's true unfortunately :/

I'm holding out hope since Brawl came out around the same time during the Wii's lifecycle. As for X, I'm optimistic but expect a delay.

Iwata on Third Party relationship: http://wiiudaily.com/2013/11/iwata-on-third-party-developers/

"Following and imitating others is the kind of reasoning that Nintendo tries to avoid the most, and while we certainly do not have a negative attitude toward strengthening our ties with third-party publishers, employing the same methodology as the other manufacturers would only lead to the most simplistic competitive approaches, such as price wars or money-giving that would never end. We would like to take a unique approach of our own and build sustainable relationships with our third-party publishers.

Yeah, okay.  I have no problem with using your own methods as long as they are effective--the problem, of course, is that those unique methods haven't worked very well.

While I'm at it, I'm also going to point out the writer/website linked might not be the most objective, as she states that, "Microsoft and Sony often require a platform exclusive period for indie developers before they are allowed to release on another console."  In Sony's case, that just is not true.

See, that's why I like Iwata. He isn't stuck up and he realizes the truths in the videogame market. I wish others would step up the plate like he has done.

My wife is buying me a PS4 day one as a early Christmas gift. So happy. Wii U and PS4 for this gen should rock!

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

I'm more excited for Sony and Nintendo exclusives in 2014.

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

Even Iwata thinks the PS4 and One will somehow be beneficial to Nintendo. I think he's dead wrong, simple as that.
