What happened to Nintendo targeting core gamers? Did that evaporate along with third party support? Or is he simply implying a "for now" condition?

Anyway, I'm fine with Nintendo in their niche, if that's the route they settle into. Nothing wrong with that. Plenty of people would be happy with that direction.

Edit:  It seems Iwata said 2014 will be Nintendo's year for the "highly skilled gamer".  Interesting.  Do they have anything announced besides Bayonetta?

Why would Nintendo target core gamers when real core gamer do play Nintendo games?  Mario is way to hard for casual gamers (NSMB is the easiest series but even that is harder than COD)
Zelda, SmashBros  are also core games.

Dont mix up mainstream with core.  Hard to understand mechanics/controls also does not equal core.

The core is the people buying the games who are always buying games continuously, they buy multiple game a year

You are not aiming for the Wii user Iwata. Sony and Microsoft have never left their crowd. You forgot who that crowd was a long time ago.

They're aiming for the 500,000 or so people who still use WiiFitU

Iwata is only acting this way because he knows he is going to beat the competition this holiday haha.
