I'm a big fan of mario games, but I need more. Even though nintendo isn't known for puming out new ip's a few per gen would go along way. As well as there legacy games, where's f-zero, Metroid, Star Fox, wave race, pilotwings, ect.

On Wii there was the Wii ____ series, Xenoblade, Disaster Day of Crisis,  Endless Ocean.

As for legacy IPs, Wii also revived several, like Sin & Punishment, Punch-Out, and Excite Truck/Bots.

your example is kinda lame lol. Vita/3DS/PS3/X360/WiiU/PS4/DS/Etc are all gaming consoles. Why wouldn't we compare. PS3 surpassed PSP last week, Did you give an example like this^?

You sound more hurt wen its not even a big deal. Both Consoles (or in your case green paint and green monster) both suck in sales!

Handhelds are NOT consoles.  They are sold to two dramatically different markets and have two dramatically different uses.  Comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranage.

These are the type of threads that are destroying this site.  People are making things just to try to say something and this message is corrupted from the beginning.

One is a home console, one is portable. PS3+Vita have lots of same games on both platforms, might be different but same thing.

Sony for Example will combine Vita sales with Vita TV sales right? But one is a home console and one is a handheld, so why does sony do this?

I wonder if those objecting to the comparison would still object if it was the Vita passing the Wii U...

No, handhelds are NOT consoles. Stop calling them gaming "consoles". They are gaming "handhelds". Sales can't be compared because handhelds don't compete against consoles.

A good metaphore would be comparing motorcycle sales to automobiles. Both of them do the same thing, but don't compete. That's why you don't compare sales.

I say you're wrong in saying that handheld CONSOLES are not CONSOLES.  I bet your argument would be that it would have to connect to a TV, which is a very arbitrary way to define something.  However, they do have different markets (handheld consoles and home consoles), though there's no denying that they have an overlapping market as well.  Most definitely moreso than motorcycles and cars (which by the way, a motorcycle is by definition an automobile).

If the Wii U was dead there, yes. Same as Vita passing the  Dreamcast in europe, irrelevant

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

People point out when living consoles outsell dead ones all the time. There were heaps of threads when 360 passed the original Xbox, Wii passed the NES, etc.

According to today's new numbers, the WiiU has just outsold the Vita in the states.

PlatformWeekly (change)Total
WiiU 28,603 (-4%) 1,469,133
PSV 6,599 (+6%) 1,463,817

Before WW:HD, the WiiU could barely sell over 10k a week, now it has sold around 30k for 3 weeks in a row. Still not brilliant numbers, and we can't say for sure if it will last, but does it means that the WiiU is slowly setting it's foot in NA? With Sonic and SM3DW coming out means that the system is safe from total flop? I still don't think it will ever become a huge system that Ninty will be proud of, but I think it's safe and on it's way towards a ''okay'' future.

Also, WiiU still FAR behind in Europe (around 800k vs 1.9mil) and in Japan (around 1mil vs 1.8mil).

So?  WiiU is a console, Vita is a hand held.

Sales of cans of Green Monster energy drink have outsold the sales of cars with green paint.  There...I posted something just as revalent.

They dont have exactly the same market but same difference. People/Analyst/etc compare them all the time. We do it here all the time too. Both first priority is to play games, gaming devices same thing!!!

If you take a look at this site, on the front page, the color coded bar graphics are clearly divided. Consoles are on the left, handhelds, on the right. Like I said earlier, would you compare sales of motorcycles to cars? You seem like an intelligent guy, so I sure hope the answer is "no".

Seriously????? We're in a wii u thread, why are you taking about the original wii?   That's just what i want to do with my wii u.... Look at it and think of all the good times I had in the previous gen...... get a clue son

Was going to happen sooner or later but the Zelda Bundle, Price Drop and more advertisments sped up the process. Also it seem Wii U software sales have surpassed Vita software sales in the US, according to VGC at least.

WiiU 102,160 (-4%)

4,800,914

PSV 40,448 (+95%) 4,789,037

Of course VGC sucks ass at tracking Vita sales so I'd take the numbers with a grain of salt plus 1/3 of software sales on Vita are digital.

PSN: extremeM

PlayStation Vita Japanese Software Sales (Media Create Physical/ Famitsu Digital)

Those longlasting Nintendo IPs sure are making the WiiU competitive...
