Forums - Gaming - Quitting "Hardcore gaming" is the best thing I've done in a long time.

minus casual point and click/wii party U, plus more and more niche JRPG's, and soon more visual novels... plus arcade racing...plus 2D shoot 'em ups... well, you get it.

I love Niche JRPGs, some of them are crappy I admit, but the campyness adds more to the charm, for Visual Novels have you played Zero Escape?

Can't you like all types of games? I don't think it's very fair to completely dismiss something because a group of people like it. One of my favorite Wii games was Wii Fit and I'm way outside its target audience.

I like all types of games, list any type and I'll tell you which is my favorite game from that genre :P

uh huh. I'd describe your words and behavior as contradictory though. You partake in almost solely hardcore games (dabble in Pokemans and Animal Crossing) and ignore most casual titles like Call of Duty, Assasin's Creed, and Madden. dudebros are almost always casual gamers.

this conversation feels dumb to me.

Zero Escape, not yet. No 3DS/Vita. However, 999, yes, and finished it a few times. It was pretty great.

How is CoD , AC and Madden the same type of games though? (even if you're joking)

You did not quit being a hardcore gamer because you are.

What you quit was being a mainstreamer.

Today mainstreamer somehow is supposed to equal hardcore gamer. (yesterday I finished Mario Galaxy after 6 years and it was really hard. Real mario games were always hardcore. Games like FIFA/COD are just mainstream)

I dunno why the media and mainstreamers labeled mainstreamers hardcore players. And why mainstreamers believe they are hardcore gamers.

I mean its like people saying "I am a MAN I cannot wear pink t-shirts that would not be masculine" those are the people that have a masculinity issue because they care about bullshit like what colors they wear etc. Be a man and do what you want dammit.

There is no such thing as casual/hardcore its mainstream/hardcore and the games are either accessible or non accessible. Casual is a bullshit term because Tetris or Angry Birds are both hardcore (are perfect 50c arcade wasters) and casual.(play from time to time in short bursts without complicated gameplay)

According to COD devs COD players are not even real gamers and I agree ( when you play all types of genres AND COD thats another story tho)

Its sad that everything that somehow gets a popularity boost is  infested with mainstream cancer.  Be it music movies and now games....

Personally I think you are just back to what real gaming is about: Having fun and enjoy yourself.. most people on this site have forgotten that..

That's exactly what I would have answered you.

Mario, Pokemon or Animal Crossing are not "casual" games. "Real gaming", with excellent gameplay.

So people are only hyped for forza and driveclub cause their exclusives is a lot of bullshit.

Each Forza game has sold in the millions and were ALL met with 85+ Metacritics. Just because it isn't your cup of tea doesn't mean others doesn't like it.

And driveclub is shaping up to be amazing, btw.

I have an issue with ''grinding mechanics'' too. It pisses me off and its why I wont be playing AC games any more or anything remotely similar to it in gameplay design (Farcry 3, Batman AO). Open world games these days focus too much on these and the majority of the 20+ Hr campaigns are spent doing cookie cutter token missions. I haven't the time or the interest to do this.

My tastes for games has simplified over the years. All I can about not are shooters, no matter how generic they are. If I can play with my friends, thats all I need. I don't even need the latest game, I am happy playing MW2 or Halo Reach or Gears 3.

Seems like I am a superior race, because I can like both hyped and non-hyped games. I'm what you might call an open-minded gamer with a limited budget and limited time.

Um... um... erm... what? ¬¬
