Forums - Gaming - Hypothetically, what if Sony dominates?

Pretty sure I'd be gone from these boards.. I already have a difficult time dealing with the abundance of smug Sony people, but if PS4 had PS2 like dominance, it'd be a level of annoyance I'm not sure I'd be able to handle.

noone will dominate by such a wide margin as the ps2 ever again, i believe. the competition is more balanced now.

And that's a good thing.
Competition breeds innovation and generally lower prices. :)
The Playstation 4 might have been twice as expensive for instance if it wasn't for Microsoft and Nintendo's competition.
American's might have needed a 3rd job to buy it. :P

exactly, a more balanced market is better for consumers. companies need to please us in order to succeed.

With one platform the only competition will be then between programmers and publishers which will mean that gamers win.

Instead of like at the moment we get diverted talking about platform differences, and moneyhatting exclusives and fanboys which frankly isnt why I play games.

So it will be absolutely brilliant.

not a bad thing. ps1 and ps2 eara were good gaming years. at least better than this gen.

Finally a good question. We need to stop debating power and who will win, and just wait to see what happens. However hypatheticals are fun, and if the PS4 does dominate (Holds 60%+ of the market):

-I think we will see a ton more great PS exclusives.

-Xbox will stop making traditional consoles after the X1. (If they are not suicidal)
-PC gaming will have a massive renaissance near the end of this gen as MS focuses their Xbox money on keeping Steam OS at bay.

-I don't think Sony will get arrogant again for at least one more gen after the PS4. Their current leadership is too smart for that, and they learned their lesson.

-Hopefully someone like Google or Samsung will fill Xbox's semi-casual boots and bring real competion to Playstation while cornering their own market. As it stands MS has always been trying to steel Sony's market instead of creating a new one like the Wii did. I want 3 consoles that compete well and have a decent following, but that are also very different. Not another "Me-Too!" like Xbox or Windows phones...

I would be more than happy to if you gave me something that was worth that back.

Thats the thing isnt it? Why do you think the service is worth it when the competitiors offer the same service for free?

Don't forget, I've used all three.  The Wii online experience left a lot to be desired.  The PS3 was good, but the 360 Live was by far the best.  Best servers, best overall service + cross game chat.  That was well worth the measly $4.ish a month.

Stop hating and start playing.

Truth. Microsoft put out far more first party that gen as well. Nintendo still had their first party going, its just that Sony was the third party brand of choice.

Well, i guess its a perception issues cause i think the PS3 experience is the same as the Xbox one. I dont really care about cross-game chat when i can have skype running on a mobile device to talk to my friends.  Why would you want to talk to strangers afterall. There are alot of annoying kids and trolls on Xbox live.

Well, life would go on as usual I guess :). I actually hope X1 sits comfortably in second place, I never bet on the leader and it has turned out great for games and services so far (Master system, Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, Original Xbox, X360). I did own the Atari 2600 but I bought it after the great crash, so that one doesn´t count :).

Isn't that what we're all doing this exactly moment? Duh, don't tell me you've never tried to annoy those annoying kids!
