This $187m operating loss leaves Nintendo $6m in the black when you combine both quarters.

So as it stands they have not made a loss overall this year.

With the hol season to come I think Nintendo will maintain their record of not making annual losses.

They made an annual loss last year did they not?

They'd have to be completely incompetent to make a loss this year, as the 3DS, Wii, and DS are all hardware lines that should be making them profit and Pokemon X/Y, with Wii U ... well if its bleeding that much money, stop manufacturing the damn thing for a few months since retailers aren't ordering it, so why have all that unncessary inventory?

Yeah they did, over $500m. It was their first annual loss. What I wrote wasn't quite what I meant. I used the word "maintain" when "recover" would have made more sense, making last years loss a blip in their record. If they do make a loss this year they really need to have a good look at the top of their organisation. Most companies would have fired Iwata by now.

Poor quarter except for 3DS. Think it will have an explosive quarter now,

Yes, they did, like every console maker in 2012....

I don´t understand why people are making such a drama about this. Everybody knew that Nintendo had a terrible Q2.

Q3 (Pikmin 3, Monster Hunter 4) and Q4 (Price cuts, 2ds, pokemon, new Zelda, holidays) will surely be much better

3DS will have a good quarter.

Wii U ... yeah not so much. That's kinda like the fat girl who's trying to sneak into a club with her better looking friend. Not so fast. Mario 3D World is their big game, but they had a pretty good multiplayer Mario platformer last year too and we saw how that went. The other games that Nintendo fans have spent months talking up like Pikmin 3 and Sonic and Wii Fit U, they're pretenders, they're not moving hardware. It's not a great lineup to be honest.

Also that's the first time I've ever seen a negative shipment on a gaming fiscal report, lol.

SM3DW>>>>>>>NSMBU also It came out a couple months after NSMB2. That to me was stupid right there, why get U when your 3ds has a version of it? Anyway WiiU line up isn't good but i think your underestimating SM3DW a little. NSMBU was just a game that was a launch title, SM3DW looks f***ing amazing, people are loving the game. There was no hype wats so ever for last year game, but this year we are all going to have ourselves a blast!

Strange, I looked thru Nintendo's report and didn't find the negative shipment there. Anybody have a source on this shipments figures per region?

Not sure if that's right, but this apparently is their breakdown of regional shipments for Wii U

Wii U Q2 2014 Hardware Shipments:

Japan: 140,000
Americas: 170,000
Europe: (-20,000)
Total: 310,000

I guess that means Nintendo had to refund/take back systems from retailers that couldn't sell them. Europe is a disaster zone for them.

Q3 results should be better with Pokemon and a better selling Wii U in the west. Also 2DS should be explosive this holiday. This is a simple bump in the road for the Big N.

By 'source' I meant a link to the document/official statement from Nintendo.
