So does this include Monster Hunter and Pokemon sales in the 200m operating lose?

Monster Hunter yes - Pokemon no

Monster Hunter is a third-party title = less profit (5-7$ per unit)

Pokemon is a first-party titles = more profit (28-30$ per unit)

If that's true then $28*4.1m = 115m so the operating loss would be less than half of what it is now with Pokemon included.

Another bad quarter for Nintendo, Wii U is killing them. 3DS was OK, but way down from last year, granted last year they had the XL released.

The Wii U sales target still being 9 million for the fiscal year is laughable, even Nintendo must know there isn't a chance of that happening.

This $187m operating loss leaves Nintendo $6m in the black when you combine both quarters.

So as it stands they have not made a loss overall this year.

With the hol season to come I think Nintendo will maintain their record of not making annual losses.

They made an annual loss last year did they not?

They'd have to be completely incompetent to make a loss this year, as the 3DS, Wii, and DS are all hardware lines that should be making them profit and Pokemon X/Y, with Wii U ... well if its bleeding that much money, stop manufacturing the damn thing for a few months since retailers aren't ordering it, so why have all that unncessary inventory?

No profit this quarter for Ninty? WiiU is really letting them down.

I know some people have built themselves into a frenzy over this "don't worry! Wii U will sell great this holiday!!" but really Mario 3D World looks like the only big time game they got and they already have a Mario platformer as the system's big game from last holiday. Sonic is a bust and isn't going to move consoles, neither is Pikmin or W101. Sales wise this lineup is not that great. Zelda WW will always be a polarizing game that couldn't sell GameCubes 10 years ago.

The Zelda bundle is honestly selling like garbage in the area I'm in (Vancouver/Seattle), big stacks of systems, very few sold, I'm wondering if retailers are going to be pissed now that they have a new bundle to have to stock since the current one doesn't seem to be selling so hot.

There IS net profit of 600 mln yen... And small profits for shareholders. Also if you'll look into the report you can see that the worst 1-2 qtr for Nintendo was 2011. In 2012 situation become better and this year better again...

They can thank the deprciating yen for that. Operating loss means they're not making any money as a business, just getting fortunate with currency changes.

But in the end of the day it is net profit what is most important... This is what they earned after all costs and taxes...
And what can you say about the improving of their finacial situation over last 3 years?
