Forums - Gaming - David Jaffe Says "Nintendo Should Sell There Corp. Or Make Some New Shit."

Screw Jaffe. The last game he made was a buggy, rushed piece of crap that didn't even work on release. And what's worse, the problems that were there day one, were there in a multiplayer demo that was out weeks before the release. So he and his team knew about them, and they and Sony still sent the game out to die. And then he dicks us around for months promising fixes and other stuff and it never happens.

Hey doofus who is now relegated to mobile game work, please fix your own game design philosophy before giving someone like Nintendo advice. This is akin to Blaine Gabbert giving Peyton Manning advice on footwork in the pocket.

I dont think that strategy worked for sega. What would be the point, besides losing consumer trust and still end up blocked on engines and third party support? The wii u will do just fine. Nintendo and their partners wil make it a unique system worth having.

I love the whole 'so many people follow you'

The interview was a large Yawn, much like every Twisted Metal Game following the first one.

Yeah. His last good game was the original God of War from 8 years ago but I suspect that had a lot more to do with the people around him, like Cory Barlog and Stig Asmussen. Both of whom are now directors themselves. David Jaffe has always come off to me as a loudmouthed hypocrite. He just seems like the kind of guy who comes in to work late, still drunk from the night before, and screams at his team for being losers and not having his amazing skills. Skills which include his ability to pass out at his desk.

When David Jaffe has created the Top 15 best-selling games of all-time, then maybe I'll give a listen to what he has to say.
Until then, he needs to know his role & shut his mouth.

Nintendo is just fine. The only thing they need to do more of is the stuff they already do.

20 years from now, we'll still be talking about Nintendo while we'll have to dig through Wikipedia to remember who David Jaffe was.

It was hard to watch because of hip hop gamer - i can't take that guy seriously.
On his point - no! I don't believe Nintendo should sellout to Disney. I'll leave it at that.

I find it frustrating that people are so eager to write off the Wii U (looking at hip hop gamer), Nintendo has proven numerous times they are not to be underestimated. Don't they deserve the benefit of the doubt?

I can't wait until this time next year when the Wii U is performing well - dem naysayers will be having crows for christmas.

I didn't think he really said anything that bad. He said he's looking forward to Mario Kart and 3D World so he's a fan at least. Trying to give Nintendo advice is silly but he's right in that they need to hold onto their core gamers. That was my biggest fear during the Wiis reign. That Nintendo would taste that sweet casual money and forget the core. I breathed a sigh of relief when the Wii U came out and bought one.

I have some respect for David Jaffe because he worked on two of the biggest franchises in the Sony pantheon, but I think he's dead wrong and is repeating the same hive mind nonsense we hear on the internet about Nintendo not ever creating anything new in terms of IPs. Btw, I find it really hilarious that Jaffe would lower himself to talk to someone like the hipgamer lol. I mean there are tons of other gamer commentaries people on youtube with bigger audiences that him, like Shokio for example who has something like 10,000 subs more than him. Hiphop has aura of authority because he gets some airplay on some entertainment shows, but in reality he's a compete idiot.

They do need to take a few more risks with new ideas and should've increased their development partners in 2010/2011 or so, so that they would have content available for the Wii U in 2013, but it's too late now.

The Platinum partnership was ok, but they needed 2-3 more of those honestly and some of them should be from the West.

2012 the biggest Wii U game was a Mario platformer, and 2013 the biggest Wii U game is a different Mario platformer ... and the biggest game for 2014 is probably Mario Kart. That's just not getting it done.

It's actually unfair to Mario to really put that franchise under such stress, it's a great franchise, but to have it have to work overtime to sell the Wii U and 3DS is going to wear the franchise out.

Nintendo made a fortune with the Wii and DS, more money should've been invested in making sure the Wii U had more games for 2013, even if it meant 2nd party titles financed by Nintendo.

Whenever Nintendo creates a new franchise, nobody buys it even though everybody wanted it.

*cough*Wonderful101*cough*

Nintendo didn't create Wonderful 101

That was made by Platinum Games. They do mostly new IP games which all tend to be financial failures like

Vanquish
Bayonetta

Even while these were good games and critical successes.

The Wonderful 101 I don't think was even a critical success... so a miss for them. And absolutely not for me because of the overtly Power Rangers tone.
