I think the thread title is a little inflammatory. I watched the entire interview, expecting to rip Jaffe apart, but his words were less incendiary than I imagined. They're still mighty stupid, from a commercial and creative standpoint, but I don't think they were meant to cause trouble.

Yes, it was a pretty awful way to lose the game. I think the final was the result of some piss poor offensive playcalling at the end of the game.

I think David Jaffe is a one hit wonder who gets too much attention. Since the first God of War, over 8 1/2 years ago, he has done nothing noteworthy and he thinks God of War IV should change its formula to be more like Zelda, no, just no.

Although Nintendo should make some new IPs and tackle other genres, how about a hack 'n slash to rival GoW/Ryse, a TPS to rival Gears/UC or a racing sim to rival GT/Forza? That would make Nintendo much more appealing to mature gamers not interested in child friendly games.

Maybe it was not that bad but the point is that he wants them to make new stuff but he then cites two games that he is looking forward to. Both are iterative instead of "new" stuff. I guess the marketing point was somewhat right. All companies can strive to do a good job there. One just needs to look at Audi and Apple. They sell their products on the strengths of marketing more than anything else.  

I am sure how good Disney has been in sustaining some of their older franchises and mascots. They were down in the drain and putting B tier stuff before they acquired Pixar. Sure Pirates of Carribean rakes in a billion dollar each time but how many more of those can they make. 

I guess there is something to learn from everyone.

Actually he advised against it because of all the complaints with the online and then pushed all the blame onto Sony for not getting it resolved.  Six months later, after Jaffe left, the online is finally fixed, but unfortunately there's barely a community.  The people that still play Twisted Metal, if you look at the weekly records, you'll see some of these people have played online five or six days of game time out of the week.

Would have been nice if the online actually worked for Twisted Metal because instead of people hearing about how bad the online was, they'd hear how awesome the game was and it would have got more sales rather than lost hundreds of thousands of sales.   The series would have probably been revived and got more of a budget rather than fade into obscurity which is what I guarantee is happening to it now.

Nintendo's audience is 8-18 year olds.  8-18 year olds will always be 8-18 years old.  once you turn 19 you can either still like Nintendo games, cause they won't change, or else you can move onto something else.

Why should Nintendo change their games?  You don't see saturday morning cartoons changing to try and keep their fans when they get older.  No they just stay the same and get the new kids that are growing up.  They don't care that some 13 year old doesn't like their tv show anymore.  100 million new kids just turned 3 and may potentially watch their show.

You think the 15+ million that buy pokemon each generation are the same who played Pokemon Red/Blue?  Hell no, its comprised of a shit ton of new 10 year olds buying the game.
