Forums - General - Is attack on titan as good as dragon ball ?

I would say within three episodes you'll know if you like Attack on Titan. Personally I really enjoy it, it moves along at a very brisk pace (the opposite of DBZ).

One thing I enjoy is the stakes, people die and no magic way to bring them back so the battle feel very intense with what humanity is up against with the titans.

Attack on Titan is overrated imo. It has its moments but overall is just ok.

But to answer your question: apples and oranges, very different styles.

The manga drawing style is nowhere near as refined but the story is interesting, it's hard to compared the 2 since one is just so much more gritty. I mean if you really want to compare, Berserk has them both beat. I'm strictly talking manga of course, Berserk anime was kinda shitty IMO.

Yeah I keep hearing the art of the AoT manga is really bad, although I haven't seen it myself. I agree Berserk have them both beat, and it's really one of the best mangas I have ever read, the problem is that I'll probably be dead by the time it ends.

Considering Dragonball isn't very good, isn't pretty easy to say yes to this one.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

What did you like about Dragonball specifically?

Something like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Gurren Lagann or even JoJo's Bizzare Adventure might be better choices than AoT

Also keep in mind that AoT won't be dubbed for some time so it will only be subbed I am not sure if that is an issue for ya. It's free to legally stream a lot of anime these days so you might as well give it a shot and see how you like it.

The two have nothing to do with one another.

I've only seen the first AoT, and found it a bit bleakly intense a la Claymore, but i'll be interested in seeing where it goes from here.

The one thing that strikes me is how neatly-groomed the Titans are despite being apparent savages.

I am contractually obligated to mention One Piece. It has giants like Attack on Titan, and has an idiot hero like Dragonball. Best of both worlds!

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Nope not really. There's no Super Saiyans

Just want to say thanks for tuning me into Attack on Titan. My goodness, this show is excellent.

Just started watching it late last night and currently up to episode 20. Damn good show. Sad to know the season is ending for me very soon.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

10 episodes in I can't say it's very deep OR mature. But it's a good series that's worth watching, even if just for the production values alone.

So basically you've never watched anime.

This was my first impression.

AoT and DBZ aren't "cartoons" but anyway AoT is a good show to watch if you want to watch some new anime.

But watch Fate/Zero first for some godliness.

manga = japanese word for comics

anime = japanese word for cartoons

There are countless other words to describe it, depends on the country you come from. I call it cartoons and it is 100% correct. And you are correct, I've never watched much japanese cartoons, I started with death note but didn't like it.

Anyways, I shall start watching it in the next few days, have some other stuff to watch first, and I'll be back with my impressions. I'm hyped for it by reading everyone's impressions.

manga = japanese word means literally "whimsical drawings" is used in Japan to refer to comic books and animation, much like the English word "Cartoon" can refer to comic strips/illustrations as found in news papers etc as well as animation.

anime = an abreviation of the Japanese word for animation

FTFY

In the west of course the terms have come to mean comics and animation respectively from Japan (and sometimes other Asian countries) specifically.
