manga = japanese word means literally "whimsical drawings" is used in Japan to refer to comic books and animation, much like the English word "Cartoon" can refer to comic strips/illustrations as found in news papers etc as well as animation. anime = an abreviation of the Japanese word for animation There are countless other words to describe it, depends on the country you come from. I call it cartoons and it is 100% correct. And you are correct, I've never watched much japanese cartoons, I started with death note but didn't like it. Anyways, I shall start watching it in the next few days, have some other stuff to watch first, and I'll be back with my impressions. I'm hyped for it by reading everyone's impressions. |

In the west of course the terms have come to mean comics and animation respectively from Japan (and sometimes other Asian countries) specifically.
