Forums - General - Is attack on titan as good as dragon ball ?

What's th deal with One Piece Tbone? I find it very superficial compared to Naruto. But I agree with you on AoT. Too bad it's over...

One Piece feels more superficial in the beginning (although we have to remember that there was a time when Naruto was... good, before it became DBZ with extra angst and ridiculous Uchiha wanking), but the depth and the TLC that you find put into it make it by far the most well-thought-out shonen anime in a long time. Possibly ever, for its genre. It manages to go through all the heavy stuff of building a complex world of good and evil without feeling bleak, it manages to have a main cast loaded with angsty backstories (to briefly compare to the two episodes of AoT i've seen so far: Eren lost his mother, so? His backstory is only more tragic than *one* of the main 9 characters of One Piece, Sanji. The other eight either match him or have him beat, several times over in Robin and Brook's cases), and yet none of the characters are brooding or blackhearted. It manages to have over-the-top humor without feeling cheesy and to have horrible tragedy without feeling angsty. Nobody else does that.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

So I'm finished seeing the whole series of AoT , and my score for this anime is 5 out of 10, and that 5 is for the action sequences, and for all other remainings of it was annoying, frustrating and laughable at some points that supposed to be sad scenes(when Eren asking himself should I help should I help, and when everybodys death, Ok I will help?!? LOL), the main character is upthere with the most annoying character anime of all time Shinji Ikari from evangelion.

and on topic DBZ is years, decades far better than this anime.

So I haven't seen any japanese cartoons since DBZ and samurai x, and didn't particularly enjoy any other cartoon at all, apart of ren and stimpy and family guy, because it's hilarious.

Anyway, I have a friend telling me that this new cartoon is great and reminiscent of the dragon ball quality. Any impressions from anybody in here ? Were can I watch it ?

They are cartoons. If your understanding of cartoons only goes as far as Tom & Jerry, I could understand why you feel they are something else, but anime in its form are just cartoons flavored by a different culture.

It's a whole discussion, but for every Attack on Titan type of show I would like to point out that there are others like Doraemon, Dragon Half, Cutie Honey,  and on and on, while in the west we have had Pirates of Dark Water alongside Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones, Swat Kats, Sky Commanders and so on. I hope you see the reasoning of what I'm saying.

Damn, already finished the 1st season of Attack on Titan and sad to not have any episodes left to watch.

Could someone recommend me something else similar? I thought it was incredible.

Claymore has a similar premise, about elite (biologically modified) soldiers taking on a threat that preys upon normal humans that regulars cannot hope to stop (although it is demons in this case, who operate more on the sly), similar amount of violence and similar tone, but a cast populated almost entirely by women. Trouble with the anime is it has one of those made-up endings, since the manga is still running.

And probably there wont be any for a long time (If any). The manga progresses just too slowly to make a new anime season happen (well unless they make somehting ala Full metal alchemist)

Something similar... Deadman Wonderland is kind of similar (boy with hidden powers, doubting of using them for good, gore, tight assa badass girl)

I started watching that a couple years back and not sure why I stopped. Maybe because I found that they ended it after just (1) season.

Made up or not, is the ending enough to bring closure for what it was they showed in that season? If so I might give it a shot. Until then I decided to start watching a show called "Berserk". Not the movies, but the older series that has like 25 episodes or something.

Where can I find it? It is no longer hosted on Crunchyroll, plus I hear everywhere shows the censored version.

I would be looking for the uncensored subbed version.

Thanks.
