Maybe they is, maybe they isn't.

*Are Sony and Microsoft...?... not "Is Sony and Microsoft..."
Sony/MS is relying on the entire third party community supporting their consoles and designed the machine's as such.
Nintendo obviously does not really design their machine's in such a way, it's more of a "if you want to support us, cool, if not, that's fine, we're going to release Mario anyway" type approach.
Console launches are for hardcore gamers. By the time they start appealing to the masses, they have much bigger libraries. And LOL @ DC being "GT spinoff with different name" and Titanfall being "CoD with mechs". Not close to accurate on either. But does it really matter what they launch with? Look at what a shitty, ugly FPS like Resistance did during the PS3 launch. Ended up selling millions. If anything, this is the perfect time for Sony to launch games like Drive Club and KZ. Get the hardcore gamers into the franchises and sell a ton of units. Same for MS with Ryse and Forza and Killer Instinct.
As for WiiU... I would never compare it to PS4/Xbone because the WiiU is in a unique position of being in "limbo" if you will. It's not quite next gen, but it is certainly a gen ahead of its predecessor. So even as it had a good launch with lots of great titles, they were titles that hardcore gamers had played long before on other consoles. And even as the WiiU gets a better library.. they will just be last gen games to a lot of gamers.
"What if there is ZERO games that can keep the sales going, after the initial impulse buys and fanbase purchases, and both consoles will just struggle till the true next genness arrives on some new IP ?"
Then they will truly live up to the name "next-gen console."

what do you mean by what if? unless there are unannounced games for the launch window, we already know there isn't anything to sustain sales after launch. |
Titanfall iirc and Infamous Second Son.
I don't know what they're planning beyond that though, yeah. There was a reliable Sony insider on Neogaf (Verendus) talking about Sony's plan with the PS4 first year is to release a "big" first party title every quarter until the holidays, so I'm wondering how long they're planning on waiting after launch until they start revealing these games... Seems like a tight fit...

Nothing,
I rephrase, nothing, on microsoft or sony platforms will come close to what wii sports did.
It was a revolutionary title that took the world by storm, sold a record ammount of copies, defined a generation, and got copied countless times software wise and also the hardware that made it possible was blatantly ripped off by minor and major players in the gaming field.
Those titles may be enough yes, but only to drive initial sales, like the initial 5 million early adopters, super eager to play with new hardware regardless of availabilty of software at all.

I'm sorry, a slightly error, I don't give a fuck though, gonna stay like that unless a mod gives a fuck and alters it.
I think no fucks are gonna be given, so, deal with it.

The Wii I already has more then 1 Billion polygons vertex performence with over 300 shader cores that we currently know about.it might turn out to be 480 or so shader cores by the time we figure out just how many the Wii U has, but at the end does it really matter about graphics when even over 300 shader and over 1 billion polygons is a lot and enough to make any real gamer happy for neat looking games. All 3 8th Gen Home Consoles are sporting 800 MHz GPUs with the Wii U custom made HD GPGPU draining only a few Hz of power at 800 MHz. Plus AMD APU using 7 cores as CPU @ 1.64 GHz going up against IBM CPU (better then intel) having 3 cores @ around 1.25 GHz isn't much of a gap, since AMDs really don't process much compare to any non-AMD CPU to begin with. The RAM is the real gap in favor of PS4 & ONE, but the Wii U can do at least 5 times as much open world as Lego City Undercover,so how many games are going to actually require more open then that to make the Wii U version not open world.
