The wii u broke records when it came to preorders. the same did the 3ds. And how did it go with those consoles after the launch?

I think in many respects 2014 will be when PS4/X1 really start to show what they are capable of doing. Too many people seem to take the present and extrapolate it for the coming 5-7 years. When I look at PS3/360 launch line up not much impressive there, especially with hind sight. I expect this generation to play out similarly.

the point is maybe one of those will be a decent seller. hint: not knack, ryse or driveclub.

Thing is I think both will suffer, PS4 more so than X1, one families see they have to pay for online. With MS its already known but many sites seem to be leaving it out when talking about the PS4. I have talked to many people who have decided not to get a PS4 after learning of the paid online scheme. I am sure once more people know they will make the same decision. Maybe it will even force Sony to drop that part.
As far as games go, sure they both have a few announced, but how many will actually get released on time?
People bring up Wii U, so lets look at it. How many games were expected to come out that got delayed? a good few. If this happens to X1 and PS4 also, expect people to slow down buying them and wait for the software to hit.
Other things to take into account
299.99 WIi U with W101,Pikmin, Lego City, Monster hunter, Lost Worlds, Mario 3D land, DKC:TF, Zombi U, Wii Fit, WW HD. for exclusives and then the multi plats like Watchdogs, AC4, COD, etc. That will tempt many consumers not to get a PS4 or X1.
Then you also have a lot of games like GTA5 not even getting next gen versions at all. That too will slow people from making the jump to next gen..

Lots of things to consider. Its never as cut and dry as people want to make it out to be. Sometimes people use their own brand loyalty to decide how they think things will go but it never works out that way.
If the internet was the world, not a single Wii would have sold last gen and we know how that turned out.

Did you talk to those people about what PS+ actually is? A subscription service that gives out free games monthly and discounts on arcade titles? Probably not.

As for how many of those games will release on time? Probably the majority of them just like this generation. People seem to think that titles got delayed all the time but the reality was they were just announced too early.

The only thing I can remember being delayed was Rayman and thats because of Ps360 versions being made.

Yes, people will wait till the SW hits but unlike Wii U the Ps4 and X1 have 3rd party titles releasing through the year. I'm calling summer release for MGS.

Gotta take the install base into account as well. Sales for those games will increase as the install base does. Capcom already said MH was a success though so I think they know more about it than you. Publishers do not expect a newly launched console to sale software on the same level as those with 15 times the install base dude.

500k out of 3.5 million is poorly? Thats 14% of the install base. How many PS360 games did you just say sold poorly when you consider the install base?

You do get free games and discounts that pay for the subscription. Maybe if you were honest and actually educated those people instead of trying to lie to them and manipulate them for your own agenda they wouldnt have a problem with it.

Really, most of the games that have been considered delayed were just speculated that it will release one year or the other that never got a release date or the developers never said it was launching that year.

You don't think MGS5 is coming in about another 12 months? Okay, don't know why you think it will take longer than that. It's been in development since probably 2008 and that would make over 6 years time.

Post launch I think all console makers will share the same fate. Third Party software only matters when it is able to move hardware, and less and less games are able to do that. Secondly, Sony's first party while not as weak as M$ doesn't reach demographics outside Sony loyals. The Wii U has dismal sales, that's undeniable, but I doubt either other console makers will do exceptionally better. Economic conditions won't allow it.

This gen is going to be ugly.
