Ohman! Nintendo not messing about. They just need to market the hell out of this. This holiday is just going to be sick for "get togethers" either we're talking family or friends.

We have what for social local gaming this holiday?

*Nintendoland
*Wii Karaoke U
*NSMB.U & NSLU
*Wii Party U
*Wii Sports Club

Am I forgetting something?

Super Mario 3D World :)

it won't be huge,. the downloadable only status pretty much guarantees that. nintendo should have a full retail release with all the content too.

...but i've got to say, i (as a consumer) like the per sport download and day pass options. i would totally go for that over a full retail but nintendo needs the full retail presence if they want to reach casuals.

This pretty much expresses my opinion. Thanks for forming the words of what was on my mind.

every once and a while i have say something thoughtful just to fuck with all of you.

This game really shouldn't be viewed as an attempt to sell systems, at least not on its own. Wii Sports U is part of the growing collection of socially active games. Such as Nintendo Land, Wii Party U and to an extent NSMBU. Together these games sell consoles to a certain audience.

I think the business model here is well thought out. Just $2 to try out the full game for a day, get some friends over and that becomes a real cheap way to spend a maybe otherwise uneventful night. I don't game too much these days and don't have many friends who do neither but I know we'd all be up for that. Now it just needs to be fun enough to justify paying $10 for one sport.

The online multiplayer is really where this game will/should shine. I have a feeling it might start off slow but as more and more people start getting involved in the clubs and competing for better scores and higher ranks it could grow immensely. A spectator mode could be a nice addition. Watching the 2 top ranked players boxing against each other for the top spot could be interesting, then use the gamepad to take pictures. Might be asking a bit too much :P .

This could serve as perhaps an introduction to online multiplayer for people who'd otherwise never experience it, if Nintendo can get everyone interested.

(edit: I kinda failed at completely making my point about why I think this game is a good move by Nintendo cause reasons, maybe I'll try again later :P )

They really want people to buy HDDs :D

Which is good for Nintendo's revenue but also bad since they miss out on a lot of casual folks, who don't know that they can setup an external HDD to it or simply just won't do it for other reasons.

Nah, games like this could probably fit within 100MB. Simple graphics, zero FMV, limited audio. Even basic set owners could enjoy these.

They'll be a couple 100MB larger than that, just for simply being in HD. Some of the NES and SNES games I downloaded from the 30th Anniversary promotion have absurd file seives in the dozens of MB now, just because they can. Nintendo would be wise to optimize each file size to be as small as possible though. When you start talking about having to buy external memory to play games, you start scaring away a lot of folks who aren't tech savvy.

And Just Dance 2014, although that's not exclusive. DK Country has a co-op mode too I think. And Rayman Legends. Also there's Wii Fit U, which is a very social game, albeit in a different way than the likes of NSMB.
