Forums - Sales - Splinter Cell: Blacklist sales on Wii U account for less than 2% of total sales

No, Carl.

Ubisoft had faith at some point, but we are long past that point. All their Wii U games in the second half of 2013 will be about making some money back on projects that were too far into development to abort them. Rayman was delayed for half a year to make it multiplatform, even though the Wii U version was supposedly already finished; this indicates that what little faith was there was already gone at that point. Ubisoft did cut corners on Splinter Cell, making it the worst version of the game. Nobody should expect good things from AC and WD at this point.

And if we are going to talk about faith in the platform, there wasn't much to begin with. Otherwise Wii U versions would have been announced on the same day as the games themselves. Instead the announcements came out of nowhere (at least for SC and WD, not sure about AC).

The bottom line is that the self-fulfilling prophecy is already in progress. If Ubisoft's games bomb this fall, they have all the justification they need to skip the platform in the future. If their games sell for some odd reason, it will already be too late, because there won't be enough free resources to make good Wii U versions for games releasing in 2014 (because those versions that are not planned at the moment). So best case scenario is that Ubisoft will bring some gimped ports next year which simply delays the inevitable. They won't get away with gimped games two years in a row, so flops are guaranteed. This means that whether or not Wii U owners buy AC4 and/or WD won't matter in the slightest, so nobody should feel obligated to buy Ubisoft games for a cause like better third party support in the future.

It's a good thing that those games will flop, because otherwise Wii U owners would get stuck in a feedback loop where publishers think that gimped is good enough for the Wii U, so gimped games will become the norm. For Wii U owners, the entire third party situation is a case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't", same as on Wii. So my advice to everyone is to only buy the games they really want, not because of a false sense of taking one for the team or something. Don't waste your money.

That last paragraph says it all. I've been thinking of starting a thread with a similar sentiment. I went through this shit with GameCube. No one should ever feel obligated to buy a game, in some misguided effort to prove something to some company that owe absolutely nothing to. I have never purchased a game that I really didn't think would be fun just to "take one for the team," and I've decided to quit paying full price for games in their launch window for games I know I'm just going to throw in a pile of other games I have yet to get to and not touch it for months.

And people wonder why it rarely recieves third party games

Rayman Legends sold most on Wii U despite its 200/300% smaller user base. What now?

WiiU owners are just more into platformers than action/stealth games. And it doesn't make Legends a huge success either.

Anyway now Ubi has no reason to port the Crew or the Division, let alone that it won't be a straight port anymore.

from your logic, they shouldn't have those on ps4/xone either. look at ps360 sales for splinter cell.

Those games are made for next-gen. If Ubi doesn't make them for PS4/X1, they don't exist at all.

Once watch_dogs and AC4 bombs on the WII U ubisoft will be forced to drop support for the system since the cost of porting is outweighing the profits.

you are saying those games shouldn't be ported to wii u because of splinter cel sales. but those sales are low for ps360 installed bases too. so acording to you, those games shouldn't even be made.

they're not even from the same franchise, for crying out loud.

The game is pretty awesome, the levels that you can do Co-Op. Have been quite satisfying in single player. It's a shame the sales are so much lower than conviction.

I'm not sure I follow. Are you implying that Ubisoft should stop making games because Splinter Cell underperforms?

Let me explain like this: you are using low wii u sales for SC to say the crew and the division shouldn't be on wii u. but even on ps360 80M base each, it had a fw of 370k and 250k respectively. how much do you thing it would sell on ps4/xone with installed bases more than 20x smaller? pretty close to wii u's 20k numbers I suppose. By that logic, shouldn't you think the crew and the division should skip ps4/xone too?

79m(PS3s)+78(XB360)+4(Wii U rounded up)= 161*.02(%)= 3.22......round up to 4 and it seems that Wii U makes up %2 of all consoles that released the game. Add in PC sales it makes WII U's sales numbers even better. To make this clear Wii U sales preformed in line with PS3 and XBOX360 sales(and actually better than both if this number includes PC sales). The game bombed either way.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

You're forgetting a very important element that is the audience. All I was saying is that Ubi shouldn't be porting games where the audience isn't. 2% of declining sales is so low that Splinter Cell on WiiU must be barely profitable (if it does profit). So porting The Division or The Crew, which would have to be rethought for a (far) less powerful system is potentially a direct waste of money and resources.

As for PS4 and X1, the audience of early adopters typically fits a for game like the Division, so they can expect a large pourcentage of the install base to be interested, however small it is. Go to the preorders page and you'll see that games like BF4 and Watchdogs are more preordered on PS4 than on PS3.
