Forums - Gaming - As if we needed more dev confirmation that the PS4 is over 40% more powerful than Xbone

Other devs have said the consoles are comparable and it's hard to tell the difference. This won't stop the rumours and is hardly proof. One is wrong though obviously, just wait till the 29th....

The key here is:

The most powerful console
The cheaper of the two consoles
The best 1st party studios
Easier to program by far than the Ps3
More indie devs than XboxOne
Bigger launch window line up
Cheaper online
Less items behind a paywall

Isn't that a potential good combination? It's not like the Ps4 has only one or two little things going for it right now, it seems to have a lot.

This. I dont understand any reason to buy a Xbone other than brand loyalty.

First party exclusives. Even though those don't interest me I wouldn't dismiss it for everyone (Though I would say the price point is definitly steep for almost everyone but if they want to spend their money thats on them)

Dead Rising 3 for me.

EDIT: Max beat me to it.

So what? Multiplats are most likely going to look exactly the same.

It's quite easy! Watch.

Most powerful = irrelevant. I enjoyed the PS2 and it was not only less powerful, it was the LEAST powerful. I enjoyed the Wii and it was not only less powerful, it was the LEAST powerful. I also enjoyed the 360 and it was less powerful. Also, I have a gaming PC. If I cared about power, I wouldn't bother with these adorable little consoles.

Cheaper = I have money. I can see this being an issue to those on a tighter budget though.

Best 1st party = opinion
Easier to program than PS3 = that's great but I plan on playing games, not making them

More indies = At launch, certainly. I don't buy consoles for timed exclusive indie titles though. But I did love the shit out of XBLA this gen. So this will be something I keep my eye on down the road

Bigger launch window lineup = another opinion. I mean.. have you seen Titanfall? Can I play that on PS4? No? Then for me, Xbone wins this category.

Cheaper online = what is it, $10 less per year? And that is only if you buy subscriptions at maximum price, which only schmucks do. Please guys, don't be schmucks.

Less behind paywall = Irrelevant for me, I don't use Netflix on my consoles. My kids do, but I have smart televisions in my office and bedroom. Seeing how I will be subscribing to PS+ and XBLG, this doesn't matter for me.

You see? All perfectly logical, valid reasons, without a morsel of "brand loyalty".

How many times do I have to say this..? Price is already included. By Microsoft's account, the Kinect has military grade technology in it. And they said..."It costs almost as much to make as the actual Xbox One."

What does that even mean. That sounds like straight from MS's Pr dept. Like the cloud suddenly makes the consoles 40x more powerful. It's all rubbish.

Remember the initial videos from Kinect... look how the videos for that and how it turned out were. Only after 1+ year did they start to put on the videos they released that they were "technology previews" and not actual expected working.

Is it possible that they have hidden tech in their machine that no one knows about (even developers)... it's possible, I mean devs didnt know about the CPU/GPU speed upgrades, but were talking about another chip not a speed upgrade... very very unlikely.

Let me ask you this very simple question. MS have an extra chip in their console which makes it more powerful than the PS4... then why do they need to try so hard to get another 5-10% out of their chips and risk overheating. Because they are just giving people even more power because they have found they can increase it, or they are worried about being outspecc'd. Personally the second one seems more reasonable to me.

As for the Major Nelson, they are playing a PR game right now. The way they have worded their statements suggest that the gap might be 30-40% right now, but with the right coding/coders this can reduce. That is true, you can close a gap, but that would suggest that the other side (who let's be honest have the better 1st party studios) wont be doing the same.

Is it strange that we havent seen any footage of Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs, Assassins Creed or any of the major versions running on XboxOne yet?

Are we to believe that MS have an NDA to not talk about their own console and only a few something like 6 weeks to launch suddenly turn around and say, hey everyone that negative press about our console being weaker, its all untrue... surprise. That would be one of the worst marketing decisions ever.

I don't know what is going on, perhaps MS will announce some tech/name on the 29th that will sound like it improves the machine but in fact is just a name of something that already exists... or perhaps they will announce another chip... but we have to be realistic here. If they have got another chip in the machine and it does make it faster, then this has to be the worst marketing for a new console i have ever seen.

Who says they are trying hard, could just be that they are well within their temps especially with that big old box and decided that they could bump up the specs.

Most of your point are debatable, "30% 40% or 50% more powerfull" means nothing if you can't clearly see that power difference in multiplatform games, and frankly I doubt you will see it. As for the best lineup it all comes down to personal preference. For me there is nothing in PS4 launch lineup that looks remotely attractive. The price can change, especially if they bring out a kinect-less sku (and I believe this will happen at some point).

Anyway why did people bought the PS3 in 2006? It had worse lineup, multiplats looked like cr@p and the price was absurd.

Most of my points are not really debatable though are they :)

You may write them off as not important, but as a whole, that's many positives in Sony's camp, what I am saying is that it doesnt really matter if its only 5% more powerful, thats not the end of the story.... even if we exclude a games exclusive preferences.

Does this mean, for the first time ever, Sony will have the most powerful system on the market?

The PS3 is the strongest this gen though, isn't it?

Keep telling yourself that.

So it was actually less or only equally as powerful, but had better looking software?

Imagine what the difference is going to be like now.
