Found the pic on neogaf way back during the first xbox event. It went along with a pic of COD showing it also was pre baked. Don't know where the pics came from, I just used them to point out that the lights are pre baked. As for your question, DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT PRE BAKED LIGHTING IS NOT NECESSARILY A BAD THING? You can get great results with it and based off the talent at Turn10, that's very possible with pre baking it. The downside of pre-baking is that accuracy mistakes are more likely, hence these pictures.
Thanks for that video. Strange that that the first one is still being used in the game code even though the shadows are obviously off. Now I feel the need to re-watch the Xbox reveal to see what else that screen shot was used for. As for the second image, did you even watch the video you posted? The image isn't anywhere in sight! The closest thing to that image is during gameplay when the driver goes past the same area...
Look at that pre-baked railing shadow again ;) Unless you want to prove the final game will have a different lighting engine than this build, Forza 5 has pre-baked shadows. Case closed. |
We will need to cut out the pictures soon, it makes the responses kind of long :).
I am guessing you mean that the first image isn´t anywhere in the video, but I would hazard a guess that it is another one of the loading screens.
I am prefectly aware that prebaked isn´t a bad thing necessarily (and I am not saying it is that or dynamic) but I am fascinated with how many people that focus on it as an argument AGAINST Forza 5´s graphics. And, since Turn 10 has said that they use dynamic lightning and shadowing, I will take their word for it, above outsiders drawing arrows and lines any day :).
Regarding that gif, I have a hard time judging whether or not it is prebaked, since you need to look at a complete video to make the judgement, not a gif showing a few seconds.
If it is prebaked, and it at the same time makes the game look superior to other racing, games, I have no problem with it. Turn 10 still say they are dynamic, shouldn´t we go by that until the game is actually released and we can judge it for ourselves?
