In case you were criticizing me for not going into detail:
In Exodus 4:21, God is in the middle of giving Moses his Main Quest to free the Hebrew People. In this verse, God specifically says "When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go." In other words, God is artificially altering the Pharaoh's personality in order to make him not liberate the Hebrews.
This is my least favorite verse in the entire Bible. It implies that God mindrapes people into doing exactly what he wants. It suggests that God felt like punishing the Egyptians more than necessary. It means that the Hebrews will actually suffer more from God's chosen method than by another method he could just as easily have taken, etc.
I've rarely been a big fan of the Abrahamic God, but upon rereading that verse a while back, I was utterly convinced that God was the bad guy. Even if there were more proof of his existence, I would not worship him, simply because of my principles.

So, regardless of what we think is terrible, when God has something that he wants to do, it doesn't matter if it's a kid's sand castle on the beach or New York City-- his will we be done. Evolution. I'd ask you to enlighten me on the subject except that I already believe in it. I even believe that people have evolved ever so slightly in our lifetime. It's like you're attempting to argue with me by telling me things I already agree with! Buy "Our creator" I mean whatever being or force of nature or whatever created all of this. Our creator is whatever put all of these wheels in motion. Whatever layed the building blocks for evolution, whatever made the microbes that live in the sea, whatever killed the dinosaurs and evolved men from apes. Lastly, you say everything came from nowhere. Please educate me....if you can stop your uncontrollable laughter for just a moment. That's not normal, by the way. |
If you ask a question, I respond...that's the appropriate action. Not sure what's difficult to understand about that? (<-actual rhetorical question - get it?)
The laws change as a result of advanced knowledge. Much like science, they are imperfect in that they offer the best solutions at any given time. A dolphin doesn't care about human laws either as it isn't governed by them so why would it? By the way, the ocean analogy is a perfect example of why I think you've nothing to bring to the table. You want to represent an omnipotent being as a body of water? Lol wow.
You're not saying anything about the terrible-ness of the event, just saying "his will be done" is not making a point on whether or not it is terrible or not. You've made this same non-argument twice now. Bordering on insanity are we?
Right you think evolution requires a guiding force - it does not. You demonstrate a lack of education on the mechanism itself. Rectify that, will you...
What existed prior to t=0? Nothing. No time, no space, no laws, nothing. Thus...everything from nothing...pretty simple stuff.

you missunderstood me, I was really thanking you for that. I've been looking for that verse.

I'll make it simple because this "discussion" is making me retarded.
Terrible things happen because nature/God/whatever doesn't care. Fuck yo sand castle! Can't believe this went on so long. Wow. You have said absolutely nothing. Peace.

Education makes you retarded? Well, not really, but it explains why you don't seem very educated on these subjects.
I'm glad to end the education lesson though as you don't seem to be a very good student.

You are not very smart and trying to have a discussion with you is like trying to have a discussion with a drunk person. That is why I choose to discontinue this "discussion". You didn't even seem to have the ability to identify simple concepts like metaphors and rhetoricial questions at times. This whole thing was a waste of time, teacher. I request a transfer to another class.
:)
The better question is.:
People do terrible things because?
Also I like how all the responses are load so that no matter how you answer it suggest a negative. Is that the only way stupid people can prove a point? That to me suggest an inherent lack of confidence in ones own beliefs.

I'm not very smart...hmm. Well wrong objectively, but perhaps not subjectively. But that's okay, because my intelligence is a fact of life. Deal with it.
Just to reiterate the lack of cogence on your behalf:
| attaboy said: Who decides what's terrible? |
|
attaboy said: What we see as something terrible may be something necessary in a greater scheme. |
| attaboy said: Maybe terrible is a human concept that doesn't apply to a higher power. |
1. Who decides?
2. It's necessary.
3. Terrible doesn't apply.
These are logically incoherent jumps.
Then you move on to another topic you clearly don't understand...
| attaboy said: I just say that the world has been here for a long time. It had to come from somewhere, right? |
Wrong.
| attaboy said: Lastly, you say everything came from nowhere. Please educate me....if you can stop your uncontrollable laughter for just a moment. That's not normal, by the way. |
It did. Already elucidated.
And then you make this rather inept argument:
| attaboy said: Buy "Our creator" I mean whatever being or force of nature or whatever created all of this. |
Forces of nature don't exist bereft of the Universe itself, you basically said the Universe manifested itself through the processes that came about after its inception.
And then you have the audacity to suggest that I am not very intelligent. The irony is truly astounding. You are a fine example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
