Super Mario Galaxy 2 has the best level design and gameplay mechanics EVER created imo. (Yeah right, one of the "mushroom kingdom enemies" said that).
Super Mario Cat looks like 3D Land at best, which is a great game, but has no chance against SMG.

In 3D Land the main quest was fairly easy, but once you beat it there was a more challenging 8 worlds. This allowed for newer Mario fans to feel like they beat the game, and gave more experienced players a better challenge. Could be the same thing here.
I don't think we can use the demos to totaly judge since those level need to be easy for the crowd to play it.
But obviously their was some lvl design ideas from previous games that would simply not be possible with 4players. Limiting level designs in favor of chaotic unplayable multiplayer just so that families can ''have fun'' playing together is not worth it.
I'm so let down by this game atm. I know alot of ppl say that it ain't the successor of Galaxy, and that this game will eventualy come. But what proof do you ppl have? This is just wishfull thinking imo. If that was the case, I think they would of simply gave it to us instead of 3DWorld, imo i don't think they choosed to make a ''sideline'' game like alot of you think and choose to give us the ''true'' game later, I think they just failed.

If it shares 3D Land's difficulty curve, i'll be mildly disappointed, although 3D Land worked out due to the Star difficulty, so it wasn't bad in the long run, just disappointing for the first few hours of play or so.

I wanted something 'new', Galaxy felt fresh when compared to Sunshine, and Sunshine felt fresh when compared to Mario 64, and I´m not getting that vibe from 3D World. The feeling gets worse because it´ll be the second Wii U Mario game that feels more like an expansion than a fresh experience..NSMBU let me down because of how similar it feels to NSMB Wii, they reused so many assets it left a 'meh' feeling as far as I´m concerned.I was let down because where was the Nintendo that made SMB, SMB2, SMB3 and SMBW so different from one another (different music, different worlds, etc..)?...despite the very good platforming and level design in NSMBU, I couldn´t help but get a "they´re being lazy" feeling...and now I´m wondering if I´m getting the same feeling with this new Mario game, which would make it twice in a row. Of course, I´m speaking for myself, and I´m not asking you to agree with me, I just want to know if you can see where I´m coming from. |
Well it's certainly interesting to see how the fans were reacting when we heard that we'd see the new 3D Mario game for the E3 Nintendo Direct. At that point we had the two camps per se: the open world big playground style of 64 and Sunshine (Super Mario Universe!), and the linear, focused "platform rollercoaster" that were the Galaxy games (Super Mario Galaxy 3!). At that point I think the most vocal group was that clamoring for the open world concept, since we just finished the more linear Galaxy's on the Wii.
So either way, both camps came away disappointed when they showed off the "inbetween" inspired 3D World (2D style "reach the flagpole" linearity yet open enough to still explore and find beneficial secrets). In all honesty, a continuation makes sense, despite fans seeing 3D Land as a sort of "portable 3D Mario". I mean, seeing as we've had two games for each style thus far (64/Sunshine, Galaxy/2, and now 3D Land/World), it was in front of our noses that we'd see EAD Tokyo take the elements from the first and expand upon them in a big way.
Yeah, there's certain elements of 3D Land's design that I hope they improve on (the easy difficulty and each level's length, among others), but as a fan I'm pretty excited to see EAD Tokyo take an already great concept and polish it down to perfection (like they did with Galaxy 2). I can totally understand (and even relate to) your opinion on the matter, but at the same time I'm totally stoked for this game.
Sorry, but I have no hype for this game and I play Super Mario since 1992. I know that Nintendo wants 3d Mario as popular as 2d Mario (Galaxy 1-11 M, Galaxy 2 - 6.6 M, New Super Mario - 30 M, NSMBwii - 27 M), but turning with the unique content and face to a multiplayer (nor has online multiplayer) takes away my interest in this game.
Seems legit.
Some of elements of 3D land will be very dificult to work in multiplayer.
- The green squares
- The timed vanishing platforms, acording to rithm of song
- The rotating platforms
Although, they can show more new elements that may work better in multiplayer, like the transparent pipes.
I want to see nintendo surprising me, but i also belive it would be dificult.

both are 3d marios where you go from point a to point b of a level, instead of geting a star but considering galaxy's linearity, it's not much different.
anyway, what makes the game is the level design between point A and B, wich I'm sure will be awesome. with nintendo's track record, we'll get an amazing game and I can't see why people would complain.
I wanted a 3D Mario on the level of the Galaxy games. Not some handheld game on a console.
Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
I am also a bit underwhelmed and disappointed by this game, but I have faith in Nintendo that they will deliver, but by the looks of it, for me at least it seems that it won't be in Galaxy's level.
