Depends on what people expect from console games these days. I hope people still consider fun an important part of gaming and if they do, the Wii U should do fine. If people are expecting story driven works of art which make you think but aren't much fun, then the Wii U won't do very well.
Bioshock Infinite comes to mind. Praised as brilliant for its story, but in terms of gameplay mechanics took a step or two back from the first Bioshock. I personally don't like the direction the Industry is headed. I hope people remember what's important before it's too late.
