Looking around/solving puzzles is only a part of Sticker Star's gameplay, and I never even mentioned Journey lol. |

Shin Megami Tensei IV. Nintendo has a deal right now that if you register both Fire Emblem Awakening + SMT IV at http://club.nintendo.com you get a $30 eShop credit to spend on whatever you want! If you really like RPGs, I recommend adding an extra $10 to those $30 and you could get and buy Mario and Luigi: Dream Team. I live in the US, but I get games a couple weeks early thanks to my older bro ^_^. The game releases August 11 and is surprisingly a great RPG. It's funny too. Not much a fan of Mario games, but this one is great. Gonna try out Paper Mario: Sticker Star soon.
P.S. You can register Nintendo games with you Club Nintendo account by using the codes in every game, so don't throw them away! Only Nintendo games have codes. Not 3rd Party games. SMG IV is an exclusive, so it is considered a "Nintendo" game and does have a Club Nintendo code. You can register your 3DS as well and they give you points [usually] depending on what you spend. $40 game = 40 coins. Save your coins in case they release great games as Club Nintendo Rewards! Register a lot of coins with new games and systems and get free games. They're usually 100-150 coins for 3DS Virtual Console/Indie titles.
My general recommendations are:
* Kid Icarus: Uprising (Shooter with great action and humour)
* Fire Emblem (which you already have if I understand the OP right)
* Dillons Rolling Western (eShop, and buy the second if you like the first)
* Denpa Men (eShop, again buy the second if you like the first)
* Pullblox/Pushmo (Fallblox/Crashmo)
* MH3U (if you don't have it on home console, which is better, but I doubt you have WiiU or Wii for Tri)
* RE:Revelations (but now preferably to buy that on home console)
As an American you should already have access to Etrian Odyssey 4 and Shin Megami Tensei 4. As european Atlus-fan I so far play SMT:Devil Survivor Overclocked, and it is recommendable.

You just proved that I never mentioned Journey lol. I mean how could I? I hardly know what Journey is other than it's game with that name. What I do know is Sticker Star be overall badness, hence why I'm talking about that game. |
I wasn't trying to say you mentioned Journey. I was saying you were saying what essentially makes everyone like Journey and said that it makes for, by definition, a bad game.
Of course Journey has more elements in it, but they do not contribute to its high reviews nearly as much since they are pretty much average.
Paper Mario: Sticker Star may not be Journey, but you assume it's a bad game because it sets out to do things differently and you don't like it. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it a bad game. In fact, a lot of people enjoyed the game. It may have the lowest review of the Paper Mario games, but I feel this comes from expectations rather than a review as a stand alone title. I think that's what makes so many people dislike it. The main flaw of the game itself is that the sticker system could have been more lenient and made the battles feel more rewarding, but the fact is that the system isn't bad. It's just not great, it falls short of a standard of greatness.
However, you seem not to realize that there are more elements in Paper Mario than just story, battles, and character development (though I don't really think there was a huge amount of those anyway). There's also the exploration element, and the puzzles. Both of those are still heavily present, and the general feel of the game still exists. When I was going to get Paper Mario: Sticker Star, those were the things I was excited to try out. I enjoyed all of the Paper Mario games I played because all of them had that element in it. Saying it's a bad game by definition is rude for all those who played it and liked it.
Also, would a bad game get an average rating of 75/100? http://www.metacritic.com/game/3ds/paper-mario-sticker-star

Yes, it would. When Boom Blox and Dead Space Extraction got higher average ratings, it's clear that an argument like yours shouldn't be made. |
I think I should rephrase it to "inherently bad." In order to get an average score of 75/100, people actually have to like the game. Also, the userscore is 7.2, which isn't that far off. A lot of the userreviews are probably also people who came in with high expectations.
edit: I should mention that I am aware of the whole "reviewer gets paid to give a good review." But honestly, I don't think that this happens with Nintendo IP's.

I haven't played the game. But, from what I saw, it didn't look to be bad seeing as how it is a Mario Tennis game...
I imported one for SMT IV. Ordered Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem and FF Theatrythm too.
