From a doom perspective, I'd have preferred 10x the Wii U sales but a reported loss. Every quarter they post profit, accounting trick or inflation or whatever, is another quarter Iwata stays President.

Add Mario Kart to that list.  Hell, software in general.

I'm really starting to think that Nintendo needs to make 3rd party studios their #1 priority.  Going into this generation, I don't think a system can be as sucessful without them.

I don't think there are many tricks.  Nintendo just isn't selling either of their system at a loss, but rather, a profit.  They might need to change that philosophy with the Wii U if software alone doesn't turn the ship around.

I think it just reconfirms what they already knew and were probably expecting....that they aren't going to sell much hardware until more of their own software is available. When the games come, the hardware sales will pick up. Maybe not as much as some people are expecting nor as much as Nintendo is hoping, but the hardware sales WILL improve as Wii U receives at least two solid games per month (most of which are first-party) from August thru December.

Also...people need to realize that 160,000 for the quarter is the "shipped" number. They SOLD more than that during the quarter...but they had over-shipped earlier in the year and back at the end of last year (especially in Europe) and so they needed to ship very little to meet the low demand.

I've been banned many times for saying certain things about Sony, yes. I wouldn't complain about this if others who did the same with Nintendo (like you with this thread, which is worse than what I did in some cases) got banned either. But they aren't. I got a thread stored somewhere on my computer with proof of this and when I get banned again for the smallest anti-Sony statements I'll publish it. The Mods of this site are indeed somewhat Sony biased.

Some of it could be selling at a profit (albeit there's no evidence they've reached that point in bringing down the costs yet), but the main reason stated in their fiscal report is currancy exchanges. The Yen has been extremely strong, and they've had a lot of their money in it. they made 10-15% of their money by letting it sit there. And that's totally fine. But it's not something you can rely on forever...it could be flat or go downward moving forward, which will add to their overall losses. So it's good they made a profit, but the very low sales makes investors worry moving forward. A company that can't move a product when it makes up a significant portion of their business (Wii U + games that require the use of one) is a red flag.
