And the thing is with the recent Yen/Dollar fall they could afford at least a $50 (Probably even $70-$80 cut without affecting the profit).
They should simply admit they made a mistake with the gamepad and allocated their resources in a terrible way. There's a budget for Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 but the next Mario game looks lame and they seem to have abandoned Wii Sports. How amazingly clever of them.
If Iwata was the CEO of Apple they'd drop the iPhone and go back to making the Newton because... well, who knows why? Iwata is simply insane. It was not the mass market that abandoned Nintendo, it was Nintendo who abandoned their customers. They should've focused on broadening the market, instead they're working really hard to figure out ways to repel even more people. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. People call the Xbone "Xbox 180" but it really is Nintendo who did a 180 here. And I'm slowly getting sick and tired of it. They won't even let me properly play Pikmin 3 with the Wii remote - you need the gamepad to access the map and there's a "look at the gamepad" message on screen every five seconds. Nintendo is in total denial. I'm just waiting for them to actually announce the next Wii Sports... and force the gamepad into it, blowing up their biggest franchise.
I don't expect to see a price drop before next holiday season.
The operational loss was not much significant, actually, when comparing to their net profit this last quarter, and also considering that that loss was caused mainly by staff and development costs, rather than sales.
Still, they should by now repeat the strategy they used with the 3DS and cut the price. Their financial situation right now may indicate that there´s no need for that.. yet, but a convidadite price plus all these big games could attract more costumers.

To compete this holiday, yes it needs one and it will greatly benefit it.
lol it needs games not a price-cut .
Wii U basic is 169EU on amazon.it ... same as the 3ds XL , guess which one people are going to buy , and why !?
If the new games don't do the job, then one just before Mario Kart should help.

I'm forward to the gamepad implimentation in Wii Sports U with reaffirming messages like "You're doing great! Don't forget to swing the controller! You've been playing for 10 minutes, why not take a break?" on U pad screen ;).
Actually the golf thing they showed at E3 a couple of years ago was fairly neat.
its not too late to get a model out that's got no tablet with it, chuck in a pro controller £179 bundle with Nintendo land and sell tablet sepera
