At this point, they may aswell just hold out for the rest of the year as more games plus the holidays will boost Wii U sales. A $100 drop with MK8 is my bet.

how funny that these articles are coming out FOUR DAYS before Pikmin 3 and the wave of games starts (;

You're ignoring the fact that they're not Microsoft, who can afford to bleed money because they make trillions in Windows business. And they're not Sony, who makes billions in their various hardware endeavors every year. Both are mega-conglomerates that happen to have video game divisions. That is not ALL they do, only a small part of it.
With Nintendo, games are ALL they do. They are a video game company. Period. The Wii U cost them a certain investment to make. Yes, dropping the price by $50 would help spur sales. But it would also mean that, for the time being, they're losing money on Wii U hardware. They already had to do that for awhile with 3DS. It was a gamble that paid off, in the end. But they're obviously less willing to do it with the Wii U. I think they'd be more willing to do it after the system had sold a bit more, just so they could have made some profit off of the system at full price. They will drop the price, next year at least I would imagine.
But for now, they are banking that the fact the system isn't selling well, is because it lacks big software releases. It's getting those starting in August. So we'll see how it plays out from there.
well.. pikmin 3 did sold consoles... will the other games do the same ? let´s see what happens when Zelda, Mario and Sonic comes
