an indie game at the top of the list again. A five year old indie game. guess this answers if indies will be important

yeah, minecraft is so typical of indie releases...

Just like CoD is so typical of big developer releases.

I could list 30 indie games that sell better than most big studio releases

which is a nice hobby but says very little about success.
Indie games have to sell much more to be even comparable to "big studio releases".

That's like saying an ant really isn't that strong because it's still tinier than an elephant. Credit where credit is due. Independants like notch or fish, whoever, only ever need to sell 15k copies and they can survive on that. Big studios are in over their heads in ceo kickbacks, huge rental costs and overhead, and just plain old poor quality work, AND on top of it all, they lie to all of us by selling out to production companies and magazine and review sites.

But, let me ask you something, why do you bring up success when my post really has more to do with what games consumers are purchasing?

what the?

sales of minecraft went up? why?

not only has it sold huge numbers already online even before this release but how often do sales of games climb 74%?

Two WiiU titles, zero Vita titles.

You just have to rub it in our faces...

Dat GT5!

DW8 held the same platform split from last week.  It was down 48% this week.  If VGC numbers from last week can be believed, then number 28 would be 1,646.  The week prior VGC shows 1,198 for number 41.  With those numbers in mind, and considering Nintendo Land fell out of the 40.  It is probably safe to say that Wii U sales dropped this week.  At best, it was 42 since it actually fell behind NSMBU this week.

On the other hand, someone on GAF who I believe has access to these numbers said "just about 1000" for Nintendo Land last week.  Depending on exactly what that means, that 1,198 at 41 might not be all that accurate (NL was 33).  Either way, it does not appear that Pikmin or Super Luigi did much of anything for hardware.

You called them important. In reality the majority really aren't that important.
Many people bought these in huge packs with other indie games during Steam deals or for a dollar during a Humble Bundle sale.
The market is still tiny compared to the other big studio releases. Hell the whole market (on PC) is smaller than this generation's FIFA.

Would you agree that Angry Birds is bigger than Mario (and thus the biggest franchise of all time) ?
Because AFAIK it has sold (not counting the free versions) more, so obviously it's more important to consumers.

I noticed this as well, which I found odd.

However, I did see a lot of deals with the game and the Basic Wii U bundle around, and the Basic was much, much higher than the Premium on Amazon this week. It's still odd that it drops out of the Top 40 when this game releases though.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Minecraft continues to amaze!
Ok for Pikmin 3. Hopefully it won't drop like a rock and be gone in one or two weeks...
And five Nintendo games in the Top 10 (individual)! That's not something you see very often these days.

Great stuff Yakuzaice, thanks for this.

Umm, but they are important, and I'd be careful about making arguments regarding steam sales and HIB sales, those are two way streets.

I would agree that currently, the biggest franchise is angry birds. In addition, it is one of my points that indie games are important.

Again, do not confuse success (profit) with importance (consumer desire).
