Indie games have to sell much more to be even comparable to "big studio releases".

That's like saying an ant really isn't that strong because it's still tinier than an elephant. Credit where credit is due. Independants like notch or fish, whoever, only ever need to sell 15k copies and they can survive on that. Big studios are in over their heads in ceo kickbacks, huge rental costs and overhead, and just plain old poor quality work, AND on top of it all, they lie to all of us by selling out to production companies and magazine and review sites.

But, let me ask you something, why do you bring up success when my post really has more to do with what games consumers are purchasing?
