Got to so, I completely disagree, I just think people were completely over-reacting
I also think that the importance of indies is massively exaggerated, by not fully supporting indies, M$ were not killing gaming

Yup, indies were a minor trouble.
But combining always on and no used games was a really bad idea, and if the console succeeded, it might have been really bad for gaming as we know it.

They would have killed gaming if they were the only option for a gamer. Alas, they're not. People who didn't like what they offered had alternatives. They didn't almost kill gaming, not by a mile away.
For awhile, Microsoft, or at least the people in charge of the Xbox division, almost seemed like they were going out of their way to breed distrust and uncertainty. The XO bore the brunt of that.
It's going to take a little while for people to NOT question everything Microsoft does, and to reply with "yeah, but ..." after everything they say. Gamers are suspicious for a reason. At Gamescom and beyond, Microsoft is going to need to back up everything and be as transparent as possible.
If they can do that then I think any resentment toward the XO will fade away inside of a year. After all, people had reasons to be resentful toward both the PS3 and the 3DS and they both recovered very well.

this article is laughable but I think it resume well what happened over the last 2 months.
Bias, ignorance and over exaggeration on microsoft new policy.
Almost killed gaming XD.
There are a lot of sentiments in your opinion that are true to the average core gamer. Look, most gamers seem to think that M$ built the XBone platform(under its original plan) to screw gamers. Obviously, M$ did present it the wrong way. Most people took every idea that M$ came up with and tried to find the worst possible scenario from it and say that is all that it can be. From a different perspective, M$ wasn't reinventing ggaming or even starting the next generation. They were simply following most of the industry trends and adopting the digital formats. The problem for them was just the OP said, the core gamers were left out of the message. We will have to wait and see if they actually left the core out of their message because they thought the core would be there either way or if they thought the core didn't matter anymore. Only time will tell.
Pretty sensationalist, I must say. Even if these policies were in place, they weren't all that extreme, and there was always going to be the Wii U with none of these policies. Indies always have the PC, and theyd have had the Wii U as well. So there's no way that gaming would have been killed. Not even close.
The only thing people are angry at is that Kinect is in every bundle which jacks up the price. Without that, I don't think people could pick between them, aside from the extra features out of the box for the Xbone.
The Xbone is the only console in the history of gaming that has received as many policy reversals as it has before launch at the hands of consumers. I hope this helps the fanatics that they mended it, but the media buzz and hearsay has already spread and I think they are hoping Gamescom can help them where E3 saved them some face.
MS have a direction, there policies all had reasons. Now they did a 180 just to shut all the babys up.
PIRACY is whats killing gaming. Sony is the main suspect with Piracy, there systems dont offer any means to counter it. Nintendo for many years have been countering Piracy by using different formats, MS tryed to introduce a policie for the XB1 (No game sharing and 24 hour Check) to counter piracy, but had to cancel it to keep the babys happy. Sony dont offer anything to counter Piracy.
If we want gaming to stay around then we need to cut the crooks out, not welcome them into another generation of gaming.
