First of all, people dismissing MS selling your information, I would venture to guess are young kids (Under 18) for the most part. It's already confirmed that they have been doing this for years. To act as if you're a crazy conspiracy theorist is not based in any logic or facts. So I do see legitimate concerns over placing an 'intelligent, voice recognizing, always connected online camera' directly into the center of your home.
Secondly, Microsoft is looking to attack a variety of revenue streams and that's the primary reason Kinect is forced upon consumers. They look like they're providing a lot of value, when ultimately it's designed for their eventual bottom line. Sure, some features will be useful, fun and even potentially game changing.
However, there is definite cause for concern over it's legitimate functions as it pertains in a gaming environment. Which then leads you down the path of questioning your need to own it if you don't plan on utilizing the multimedia features (Anyone outside of the US, I'm talking to you).
It's not just Sony fans. It's most people.
