Why are people calling this moneyhatting? They are not using money to secure games for themselves by contract. They are simply letting people who don't have a lot of money develop for PS4 if they want to. Sony can't make them do anything.

So now we have moneyhatting that doesn't even bring timed exclusivity in return.

Indie Devs, who Im assuming wont be releasing games at retail but on an online store.
Games are too popular nowadays for a crash to come in. When you have Call of Duty selling 20 Million a Year and FIFA selling 15 Million a Year it simply wont happen.
Games have dedicated fanbases. These games will ensure the survival of certain platforms no matter how much garbage is released. Look at the Wii - Shitty, rubbish cash in games flooded the market yet the true quality titles kept the machine going.
Also, the PS2 was arguably the console with more shovelware than anything else. Ever... Its still the best selling console of all time.

I thought most big 3rd party publishers get a bunch of dev kit for free from Sony, MS and Nintendo?

What it will do is keep people sticking to franchises they like, and not wanting to take risks wasting money if the market is saturated with bad games. You'd see companies with repurtable franchises survivng, and others (including many indie devs) going bankrupt, pretty much what's been happening this entire gen...
I want one sony.
