or they can just add a "Video in/out" and let people use the PS4 like a devkit just like xbox one, hook the console into your PC and start porting, consoles should have done this awhile ago, android phones have this feature

Why it need a video in to be a devkit? I didn't understand.

Anyway you can't reach the full potential of the console with the own console... so you can't use all the full Xbone hardware with the Xbon consumer like a devkit... if you need something AAA you will need to buy a Xbone DevKit.

PS. There are rumors about Xbone consumer devkit is only for the Windows RT OS too.

the Xbox has an "HDMI In" and an "HDMI Out" meaning you can use it as a devkit easily, the PS4 should have had this, and newer PSVitas in japan have this as well.

you can use the HDMI In port and hook it up with your PC and it will act as a devkit.

Okay, going to nip this sillyness in the bud right here and right now.

the HDMI in passes hdmi video through the framebuffer allowing the framebuffer to tack on overlay video or modify (crop/resize) the feed and pass it through, there are limits of course, 60hz 1080p without hdcp, but hdmi input to the console "used of dev purposes" makes absolutely no sense, because passing video to the console for development would be no different than passing video to a monitor and saying "look now my monitors an xbox one devkit" its just silly.

The console will boot into the development client and allow wireless or network based connections to interface with it from a pc to compile and run code on the system pretty much exactly how it was done with the original Xbox via XDK on network port, hdmi in plays absolutely no role what-so-ever in the development of games on a console and the only possible reason i can imagine for you trying to insist it does so is to say "ps4 cant because it doesnt have hdmi in", and that, is just lunacy.

Perhaps have the slightest clue about how xbox and xbox 360 devkits work before trying to convince others of your random theories?

Microsoft has a big problem with this though, unless they strictly mandate licensing for the console, or put a barrier between system functions and the average home developer, theyre going to end up with a very exploited and hacked to shreds system very early on.

Around the Network

Sony is the company to support right now :)

Those developers. Beside, Journey wasn´t indie, they had a contrat with Sony for 3 games.

I want to see a indie game comming out of the blue with no additional subsides other than the "free devKit" comming to the PS4.

You know we need to wait this indie game work for PS4 be released first... I can't give you example without the console launch lol.

From what I know the HDMI in is only for connecting your Cable box with the XBOX, so that you can controll  your cablebox with the XBOX/Kinect! So if the HDMI in is for DEVS, please explain to me how to make really use of it. For the PSvita it's only on the DEV version and it's not a HDMI in, but HDMI out from what I know.

Sending devkits for free is how we got Crash Bandicoot and Spyro on PSX, so it can't be a bad thing

I'm struggling to see how giving free dev kits that cost 2500 dollars  for a year is equivalent to paying for exclusivity. I guess if you squint a little, I can kind of see the connection.

The Xbox One will someday allow every system to be a devkit for free - is that moneyhatting also? I don't get it.

That was actually sending devkits early before they were even sold. But good point. ;)

Good for them. I approve.

So on avg how long does it take a indie dev to make game? Cuz while 1 yr free sounds good wont they have to pay for it after the year?

I don't know but Warhamer was ported to PS4 in three months.
