Considering they are a Japanese company that number sounds really low.

The only reason why it made to 1 million in about the same timeframe is because Wii-U hade a much better launch. It sold more in it's first week than the PS3 did in the first five. It outsold the PS3 by a good margin the next two weeks and after that it fell hard. A few weeks later and the PS3 was selling double what Wii-U was selling in the same time frame.

The PS3 was having sub 10k weeks at this point in its life as well.

A few weeks maybe but from July 2007 it didn't go below 10k a week for the rest of the year. By the end of the year the Wii-U will probably have sold better in Japan than the PS3 did in it's full year and with some big titles releasing next year it will do better aswell. After that though, i think Wii-U will pretty much be done.

>implying Nintendo is just gonna stop announcing games all of a sudden

No but all of the main franchises will have been released. Unless they release a add-on that creates a hype like the Wii motion controls did or release (multiple) new franchises that rival the likes of Pokemon Wii-U will has a good chance of slowly dying out after a little over 3 years. And iwth stiff competition from the PS4 when comparing to the PS3, it's going to fall behind fast.

"The WiiU is doing AMAZING considering the games it has. It is selling with 5 or 6 games really worth getting, and 3 of those are already on cheaper systems like the PS3 and the 360. And, worst of all, the WiiU version don´t even look better. All that consider, it is a freaking miracle that the system is selling this much. The Vita, with a much more compelling library, is a total freakish failure."

The Vita is outselling the Wii U in Japan and overall- How can you say the Vita is a failure and the wii U is dong great? Unless your post was sarcasm- After the initial Wii U launch based on the false pretense that certain launch games would actually be available and that Nintendo was actually going to doing something about getting 3rd party support- The sales for Wii U have been HORRIBLE in every market - the sales for Wii U software have been even worse save Nintendoland and Mario- does not mean Wii U can t come back but so far it has been a disaster on most every front

i think he means that the Wii U managed to get 5 million without any killer apps what so ever. and that it's comeback is upon it starting with Pikmin 3 and continuing to release compelling software with a steady rate after that. while the Vita's library is kinda fullblown and there are no big releases anytime soon. so the fact that the Wii U is on par with the Vita with barely any games makes you wonder how much it's gonna sell when the games start releasing

Well it's just my personal prediction, i don't have to convince anyone and you don't have to agree with me at all. Im only saying that 2-3 years in the PS3 started pretty well and kept that momentum for years. Unless Nintendo comes up with some impressive new things by that time all major games will have been released for the Wii-U and once the momentum of those game die out that would cause it to fall behind.

If anything that could change this course for the Wii-U would pop up i will be the first to change my mind and admit that i was wrong, but there are no signs of anything like that.

yeah, well, i don't think so (;

The Wii U also has far better games out now than the PS3 did. Most of what the PS3 had was garbage until going into the second year.

Someone should make a thread asking which company had the better first year library--Wii U or PS3.  And that somebody is not me.

Anyways, I think people are greatly overestimating the importance of home console sales in Japan, these days.  There was a time where "Japan was games" but they've kinda dropped the ball.  They aren't the video game mecca that they used to be back in the good old days.  In my opinion, the only things Japan is good for these days are fetish porn (oh, how I love their porn....) and not buying the Xbox 360.

The Wii U has sold aprox 3.3 million units (Global # s) so far not 5 million - a big difference - considering the Wii U has been selling about 100,000 -125,000 (globally) per month the last 3 or 4 months -

the Wii U has still not hit Nintendo s reduced sales target (reduced from 5.5+/- million) for Spring 2013 yet - I think the reduced target was 4.4+/- million
