They don't need a reboot.

They just need a fresh start in regards to the subject matter. Instead of focusing on old favorite characters and retreads of previous storylines, come up a new zombie-ish scenario, new characters (maybe have some links to the past but don't over expose or show them), keep it fairly simple and updated game mechanics to take advantage and provide scares and thrills.

I think they nailed it with RE4. everything worked/balanced almost perfectly.

I paid full price like a sucker. Sigh. Hopefully RE 7 will have some new ideas. 5 and 6 were poo!

I think they should do another Raccoon City game. The problem is getting the control scheme right. Although a lot of us are fond of the tank controls, it just won't work in a modern game. If they design a whole new control scheme, it might just end up been a typical third person shooter.

No reboots please... Just shake hands, congratulate each other on the great games you made (5+ years ago) and don't make any more...ever.

Capcom needs to stick to new ips, like dragons dogma which was an amazing game.

You ask me, it needs to be set aside and left alone for a while. Let them make something else and come back to Resident Evil once they actually have some good ideas for it.
