Does anyone know if you are using the Wii remote + nunchuk with the Gamepad that you can use the IR pointer to point on the Gamepad as well? So I can point on enemies on screen to throw pikmin and then point on the map screen on the gamepad?

You can certainly play with IR when using gamepad in off screen mode. I used it to throw Pikmin on the Gamepad. The touch screen buttons stay on the pad and use can use them to call up map and info as normal. Not sure if you can point at map when using both screens.

Too cool. It would be amazing if they made a GamePad 2.0 with bigger screen, battery life, and better signaling radius so you won't even have to use the TV. but a power cord to turn on the Wii U.

Pikmin 3 was my first take on the franchise and I wouldn't thought it would be such a pleasing and complete experience. The strategy in this game goes far beyond what I expected it to be and the graphics are so gorgeous and full of life! And the soundtrack really sustains the feel of an alien, faraway but magnificient world to discover.

I love the use of the Gamepad too, really enhances the experience. This game has the Nintendo charm nobody can replicate. It is truly a masterpiece.

I hope there is a Pikmin 4 on Wii U!

I completed the story mode last night, and this was the first thing that popped into my head.

I'm not too far into it (I still have to 100% Pikmin 2 and I want to do that first), but my expectations have been more than surpassed so far...
I live the Rock Pikmin!!!
Pikmin 3 is much more charming than its predecessors...
The graphics are more impressive than I expected too; the textures look far better in-game than on a computer screen...
Wii U finally has a first-party title that cannot be missed...

Have a nice day...

Pikmin 3 really does make it's predecessors look archaic. It's just so much better. Every little quibble I had with the first two is fixed. Really really a polished experience.

I agree, and Ive only done the first few days! It can only improve from here!

Something which gets me is my Dad watched me play it a couple days back, and he laughed and called it a "gay kids game", something he repeated today. I know he is joking to a wide extent, but it is an identity crisis a lot of people see with this game.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Yeah, I'm not feeling the one review that claimed this game is less polished than other Nintendo games. Feels massively refined compared to Pikmin 1 on Wii. I'll have a hard time going back to finish that one. I haven't tried Pikmin 2 on WIi yet, but I expect the same.

One gripe (besides the lack of co-op, which I've already grumbled about) is that I was totally excited to play this game with the gamepad Nintendoland style, using the stylus to throw Pikmin around. The map is pretty handy, but not as engaging a use of the pad. Fortunately, the wiimote controls are massively better than gamepad controls, but then you end up with an awkward situation where the game keeps drawing your attention back to the gamepad.

On the bright side, I'm hoping Pikmin 3 is a signal that Nintendo hasn't completely lost sight of the value of the wiimote, and that excellent wiimote controls in this game aren't just as artifact of it's Wii development roots.

I have all three games, and this one is just lightyears ahead. The first two look like tech demos in comparison.

I too wanted to play with the gamepad. It's a shame that those controls aren't supported. Wii remote controls are a pleasure. I've found the best way to play is with the wii mote +nunchuck and then have the gamepad at your side. I use the gamepad for a lot of things actually.

My first Pikmin game, loving it so far, but I'm currently stuck.

Currently on Day 10, stuck on the Tundra level. I've gotten back together with Brittany and discovered the power up fruit as well as all the reachable fruit on the map. The 2 places I see that I could go next are out of reach or a large stone wall which I have no idea how to topple. ANy help?

My Pokemon Trading Shop (Hidden Power Breeding)

I bought it Sunday and own 1 and 2 already- I have played thru 1 several times - loved it but never finished 2 for some reason- I will but just have not yet and did not like it as much as 1- I have been watching my son play Pikmin 3 so far- I realy like it and look forward to starting a new game myself- I am glad to hear some of you are using the wimote and nu chuck w the game pad- I can fling Pikmin like 2nd nature w the wimote but not w the game pad- but I d see the other advantages the game pad has re maps etc. I don t see it being too cumbersome to use both from what I have seen and read-

I do hope they release DLC for Pikmin 3 - Nintendo has done dlc "right" so far - there is value. I can understand adding content to a successful game so long as feels like extra content ( more like an early sequel) not content you are paying for twice
