Forums - Nintendo - Shigeru Miyamoto Discusses What Went Wrong With the Wii U and His Hopes For the future

Nintendo needs to market  lesser known games like X, Bayonetta 2, Sonic Lost World, Pikmin 3, etc..

True, the way the marketing goes for many of these games seems to get minor pushes but compared to the multiple commercials and ads you see them give your average Mario release. It isn't even a matter of comfort zones, I suspect that they are just budgeting their releases and how much they spend although this conservative approach they have had since the start of the Wii seems to be biting them in the backside compared to how it helped them in the first few years of the Wii's existence.

You know what would be awesome?  Shiggy is working on some Pikmin shorts. Why not air them on cartoon channels all around the world?

The biggest Wii U advantage is it biggest issue... the Pad.

I'm pretty sure without it the Wii U should be selling way better.

Based off what? Or you know it could be because its had a 7-month drought

Based in the sales of Wii U

I know the sales are horrible, but do u really think its because the gamepad and not the lack of game releases?

Unless u mean because it keeps the price of the console up and not many games take advantage of it, then I can see ur point.

no, you can't. the gamepad only adds $50 to the wii u's retail price.

i cant what?

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Has anyone else noticed that when visiting YouTube and watching videos on the Wii U browser that you never see annoying adverts..? Or is it just that the videos I watch don't have them..?

Wow. So buy a Wii U to browse the internet and play Pikmin 3...Hurry up and please buy a Wii U (giggles). This dude is tripping. I don't know why he's laughing either. Nintendo has some serious issues atm.

You completely took that the wrong way.

Yup, definitely no adverts on YouTube. You know the ones I mean, sometimes you get those little yellow vertical lines that put an advert across the bottom of the screen or those longer, full screen adverts you get where you get a 5 second countdown on the bottom right of the screen before you can skip the advert.

I wonder if this is why Nintendo got the hump with these Let's Play videos..? They must be paying YouTube some sort of fee to keep YouTube videos ad-free on the Wii U browser.

Do we really have any information at all to say any amount the gamepad increased the Wii U's price?
I mean, the Wii U HAS been selling at a loss.  Since this is Nintendo, isn't it possible that the Wii U may have been somewhat the same power at the same price if they didn't have the pad?  Either way, I don't like talking about this topic because everyone seems to like talking short term and we really need to wait some good time before we really can come to realistic conclusions.

WiiU LMAO!
Nintendo LMAO...er!
I'd call it crap but I defended my PS3 purchase back in 2006 from that same kind of criticism so I'll refrain. Seriously though, if all Nintendo fans tout Nintendo's first party games as why they but Nintendo's consoles then why is lack of 3rd party support hindering WiiU sales?

Lack of first party support has been hindering sales. Only 2 first party titles released since launch. It's really not rocket science mate.

As for the cost of the GamePad I'd say Zero isn't too far off, I'd say it's more like $70 myself.
