Forums - Sony - Last Of Us. Whats the fuss? Spoilers

Being overrated is all opinion, I left playing The Last Of Us with a lasting impression, one that very little games give today and in my opinion it is one of the best games on the gen.

1. The combat itself is near identicle to uncharted

2. the point is that while the gameplay is pretty good, they took some stuff from ZombiU that I really enjoyed, nothing is original,

1. Did we play the same games? The gameplay is not even close to being the same.

2. The fuck? Like what?

You also say games need to be FUN, yet you put heavy emphasis on innovation. Can't games be fun without innovating? And what exactly did Galaxy innovate?

1.  maybe combat was a bad word, I guess gunplay is a better term.  Anyways, I'm gonna get a lot of heat from that regardless so I will just drop it.

2. you can't pause the game when looking through inventory, tough zombies, few items, poor aiming etc.  But you missed the point of that statement to begin with.

Games can be fun without innovating, I never said they couldn't, nor did I say the gameplay in TLOU wasn't fun.  In Mario, they innovated the level design, it would take me awhile to explain it, but if you have played it, then you know what i'm talking about.

1. Don't be rude, it makes you look childish.

2. I didn't say anything like that at all, I was merely pointing out that I liked how a few of the features in ZombiU they incorperated into TLOU, I never said ZOMBIU did it first, get your facts straight before using sarcasm to put people down.

Moral of the story is dont explain your opinion or you will be attacked as shown above and all through this thread.

Well, the guy I was originally talking to was pretty cool about it, just everyone else seemed to flip a lid lol.

First Bioshock is one of best environmental storytelling games in last 15 years, which is order of magnitude harder to make properly than usual cinematic approach. Honestly, considering how much that game improved old, worn-out FPS genre, I would consider it much more important than anything else that came since, even though, subjectively, there are games I enjoyed more.

The Last of Us does environmental storytelling as much as Bioshock, but it also couples it with traditional cut-scenes. I enjoyed Bioshock Infinite quite a lot, but its characters aren't nearly as well fleshed out as the ones in TLoU. Story is good overall, but most of what is important in it happens during the last few hours.
The rest isn't nearly as engaging emotionally as what you find during the whole of TLoU.

I was talking about Bioshock 1. Game that proved that there are still developers who are willing to make exceptional stories in incredible settings (and what a story and setting that was) in ways that are very unique to games, without reaching unnecessary into bag of Hollywood solutions.

My point still stands.

What point exactly, except different strokes for different folks, what OP pretty much is all about? I personally find Bioshock 1 leaps and bounds more immersive and engaging than TLoU.

My point is that The Last of Us did push story telling forward in the same way games like Bioshock and Halflife did before it. I wouldn't have enjoyed Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite nearly as much if their story telling wasn't good. Cause most FPS games don't do much to me. But in the case od that game series, it does it well enough and different enough to be appealing to me.

When it comes to The Last of Us, the story telling is present in most of its aspects. If these games represent the future of game story telling, it's gonna be an incredible time to be a gamer.

1: What? You're saying the combat is near identical to Uncharted and call it a negative. It's quite different, actually. Especially the flow of it and the crafting elements thrown in. But yeah, it's a third person game. You press buttons to punch and grab enemies... ¬_¬

2: Are you kidding me? Here's what you said:  "they took some stuff from ZombiU that I really enjoyed, nothing is original".

Even if you don't say ZombiU "did it first", you're complaining about TLoU for not being original because it's doing things you've seen in ZombiU, but you're not complaining about ZombiU in the same fashion. Implying that you think ZombiU did it all first and is original.

Nice try though.

1. You are missing the point, it doesn't matter whether you are right or wrong, don't be rude, end of story.

2.  "they took some stuff from ZombiU that I really enjoyed" meaning, I like that they took that stuff, I enjoyed that part of the game, it wasn't a complaint which you are suggesting.  I never implied they did it first, nor did I say it was original, ZombiU was just the last game that I played that did this.

Don't assume.

I think its safe to say JakDaSnack never played either Uncharted or TLOU with that comment.

No, you said: "the point is that while the gameplay is pretty good, they took some stuff from ZombiU that I really enjoyed, nothing is original."

"while the gameplay is pretty good, nothing is original."

"Its good, but..."

How can you say it's not a complaint? If it wasn't a complaint, you wouldn,t mention how nothing is original. ¬_¬

You may need to consider wording your comments better.

I think you have confused the word "combat" with "gameplay"

by the way Uncharted 3 is going to piss you off at the end, I warned you, the part after the plane crash till the ending are terrible, and the ending is one of the worst endings to a high rated game next to Mass Effect 3 and Assassins Creed series
